Alright, so I accidentally dropped my Inspire flat on its back today (it had a case on, but it's a cheap case) and now the area around the camera is scratched up :( The lens is fine but I can't stand to live with my dinged up phone D: I've attached a photo of it. The resolution is bad because I just took a picture of a mirror, but you can kind of see the dings. Anyway, do you think HTC would fix/replace the back part under warranty? If not, would Amazon (where I bought it) replace it? Today is like the 29th day so after tomorrow I wouldn't be able to return my phone to Amazon.

    Warranty =/= insurance.

I think you already know the answer.

Thats physical damage so as mentioned you would need insurance on the phone but thru att thats $5 a month and $125 deductible. Oh and you only have 30days from date of purchase to get insurance thru att

Well since yesterday I've been thinking of switching over to the Atrix, so would Amazon still accept my return if it's scratched like that? As long as I set up the return by tomorrow, I'm still within the 30 day return period and Amazon would offer a full refund.

if its obvious that there is physical damage then amazon will probably have an issue with your return since they cant just resell the phone to someone else with that damage.

    As per the amazon page
Items that are not returnable AmazonWireless does not accept returns of the following items: Any product more than 30 days after delivery to the customer Any product that indicates use or damage by the customer Any product missing the serial number or UPC Items that are classified as hazardous materials or use flammable liquids or gases If any of the foregoing are returned to AmazonWireless, we will reject such item and return it to you and you will not be entitled to reimbursement for your shipping costs.

Well is there any way HTC could repair it at a cost? I really would like it without the dent...

Also, what do you mean by "obvious?"
When I look at it, I can see it's there, but I mean, you may not see it unless you know it's there or you're looking very closely at the phone...I'm not sure if it's obvious (because I already know it's there) or maybe it wouldn't stand out to someone who doesn't know it's there. And do you think I'd be able to trade it for an Atrix and/or Infuse without much cash trade? Like would the little dent thingys lower the value a lot, or just maybe like $20 or so?
EDIT: I just realized that February only had 28 days so I have until Friday before the 30-day return period is up.

obvious like when their returns dept looks it over how likely are they to see this dent/scratches? You said in your first post that there was a pic you took in a mirror and you can kinda see the damage. So my guess is in person it would def be noticed.

As far as affecting value it could make it drop, again without seeing the actual damage.there is no telling how much. Can it be covered by a better case maybe like an otterbox? My guess is that anyone looking to trade an atrix for an inspire wont trade for a damaged one unless there is more money involved since if they are in their 30days they could just return it and get cash back plus a new inspire

Well i meant that it was hard to see because i took the picture in the mirror with the phone. I'll try to take a picture with a real camera and maybe youll be able to see it a bit better.

And of course if I was going to trade it for an Atrix/Infuse, then I would offer extra cash or maybe a case or something to balance it out...but I'm saying I don't know how much extra I would need to balance out that trade...

Your best bet would be to sell it on Ebay. I had a scratched up Captivate, rooted with a ROM installed, and it recently sold for three times what I paid for it. AT&T was offering me only 99.99 for a trade-in. So I rooted it, installed a ROM and let the bidding begin. If you want a new phone, sell it on Ebay, as-is. If you want to profit, then root it so it is also an unlocked phone, and sell it for double what you paid for it. Then you can get another phone that you so choose.

As far as Amazon taking it back, they won't. They inspect all returned items, and they have to show no significant usage. Don't get hung up on the word 'significant', because to Amazon and most other professional retailers, significant is even a faint scratch/dent. So, yes, they will notice it and not accept the return.

Don't waist your time with doing a return, just auction it on Ebay. :)

selling something "as-is" implies that it is either very broken or in-usable. If anything I would trade the phone and some cash for the Infuse maybe.

You're exactly right, selling something "as-is" means it has been used, not broken or does not work. That is what the description box is for, as well as photos of the phone turned on. MINT condition also means used. The only words that implies something being new, is....new, unused, un-boxed, new in wrap, etc. I'm guessing you've never sold anything on Ebay before...

Like I just said, I sold my Captivate, USED and WITH scratches (made that very clear to the potential buyers with photos) and it still sold for 323.00. You see, there are thousands of people who prefer one phone over another, however, sometimes their carrier does not carry the model/design they want so they look for that unlocked phone they so desire on Ebay or Craigslist.

You do realize that trading your phone will result in a loss of 'profit'. Again, Root your Inspire 4G and auction it on Ebay...

One example of an auction happening right now on a USED Inspire 4G can be viewed here, HTC inspire 4G Unlocked And Rooted .....Mint conditon.. - eBay (item 260756251872 end time Mar-27-11 22:21:08 PDT). It's already at 399.00 with 4 days left.

P.S. I take 10% for showing you the light.
