Root I have a stock incredible, how do I get root AND the official ota 2.2?

sorry if its a repost but trying to search and read all the threads has just got me more confused. I have a stock incredible and i'd like to upgrade to 2.2 (i have the prompt for the OTA update) but I'd also like to root and retain that root on my phone, which I understand I should do before the OTA update.

Can someone provide some links/guides on how to do this? Thanks in advance.

you need to installed unrevoked forever to atain s-off before accepting the OTA. unrevoked.com then click incredible then unrevoked forever.

I haven't read that the version that was leaked 2 days ago is any different than the OTA yet, but make your decisions as you like...
I grabbed the Leak Lite w/ Sense ROM and it is doing great for me so far!

DON'T TAKE SHORTCUTS! Follow directions in sequential order.
