    Hi all,
I've been perusing these forums and threads and I know there are instructions and such for the questions I'm going to pose but I guess I'm intimidated and overwhelmed so I'm going to post here...I'm not trying to bloat the forum with unnecessary posts but I guess I need a starting point or some guidance...

I basically want to get my phone up and running with all the firmware/software updates and everything good before I start to customize it....which kinda sucks but I'd rather get all that out of the way in case I lose everything. I won't get into really nitty gritty customizations or anything, this is more of where to start with the phone to get it into a good state...

Ok, so here are the things I want to figure out how to do:
    - buy a screen protector (Phantom Skinz, Zagg?) and case (plastic hard case, silicone gel, rubberized plastic case like Amzer?) I WILL end up dropping this at some point...I just will :(
    - Update to 2.1 (is it just the OS or something else that I need to update as well?)
    - remove the extra crap apps that are on the phone ($@##^&)
    - use an app to backup after I add all my contacts
    - use something to fix the battery life/meter

I've been looking around and I know that everyone warns about bricking the phone if you hack into the ROM (in order to do fun geeky stuff and remove crap apps) and it seems that a lot of people are doing this just fine but to be honest I'm a bit scared as I'm not a programmer (but geeky) and it seems I have bad luck with computers. I'm "that girl" who calls tech support and they have literally said to me "I've never heard of that before."

Ok, that's all, please don't hate me for extra posting....

    Thanks!

This should give you a pretty good idea of what you need to do for upgrading and rooting. The chance of bricking the phone is very remote. The whole process is very basic and if you choose to change over to another rom once rooted, even easier. Screen protectors can be bought cheap on ebay, but I don't use any and my screen is scratch free since November. OTH, the screen om my wife's Pre will scratch if you look at it too hard.

    - Surprised your new Moment did not come with 2.1 (DE03) update which was officially released on May 14. If update process sounds intimidating, let the Sprint store do the upgrade to 2.1.
    - Right now, do not worry about the extra crap. After using the phone for some time if you must remove them, you can always do it later.
    - You can enter contacts on the phone right now and sync them to your Gmail account using Menu>Settings>Accounts & sync. And can sync back to the phone after 2.1 upgrade without losing them.
    - cellular signal strength and battery life improve with 2.1 upgrade. If it is not satisfactory with 2.1, you can root the phone later.

Let the information on the forums not overwhelm or intimidate you, and hold you from enjoying the phone. :)

I am going to have Sprint update the phone for me today to 201 and they transfered my contacts so I don't care that it will be reset. I still need to order the case and screen protector though, will do ASAP...the teal bandana I'm using to wrap it in my purse really isn't cutting it, lol.
