Question about sounds in Android from an ex-iPhone user. One thing I really enjoyed about the iPhone was if I flipped the "silent" switch, I knew that no app would make noise. That's an absolutely critical feature for me, otherwise I'm inclined to not use my phone as much because I'm worried it'll blare some inappropriate noise at some weird time. Thinking that Android phones would behave the same way, I set my Droid X on Vibrate and went about using my phone fairly late when my girlfriend was on the couch next to me sleeping. I launched the Urbanspoon app, and what does it do but make it's loud and ridiculous sounds. Queue girlfriend jumping a mile, startled. How can I get my phone to tell all of the apps to shut the hell up and not use the external speaker without rabidly checking for settings on each individual app?
