Well I think I text too much for the Hero. For one person, I've hit 5,000 messages, and with everyone else I text, I'm at about 10,000 messages stored in my phone. I guess this is why my phone has been slow to do simple things like change screens, so I'm trying to delete the 5,000 message thread. How ever, when I hit delete thread, the phone acts like I did nothing and I can't tell what it's doing. When I try and delete one message at a time, it force closes. Any idea what I can do?

Use wavesecure or something else that can backup your texts, then delete them all.

Thanks, but backing up the texts isn't a problem right now, but I'll do that after I get this fixed. My phone won't delete the messages. Do I just need to click delete and let it sit for an hour or 2?

I had the same problem and I ended up doing a restore to fix it. I suggest not letting them get above 200. It sucks but I guess you gotta do what you gotta do.

Hit delete and let it sit for a while.

i agree with Kelmar, you have to wait, it takes awhile. I had a thread with 350 txt messages and it took a good 2 to 3 mins. Just let it finish, it will finish. it's removing the txt messages in the background.

it should work. I just deleted a thread with about 250 texts in it (and a dozen or so pics). It took a few minutes, and the phone was pretty much unusable during that time, but it did delete them.

i had this problem today when i realized me and my gf's convosation was almost at 1000 texts and it kept freezing when i tried to delete it. my solution was going into the manage applications menu in the phones settings and going into messaging and selecting "clear data" and it deleted all convosations right away but it also resets the messaging settings but all i had changed was the sound and that took a second to change back

Thanks, guys. I tried the clearing data thing and it didn't work. That may be because I installed Handcent, though. Since I began using Handcent, my phone handles the 5k with no problem. How ever tonight I ran into another issue, but I think it might be Sprint. My phone won't send messages, and I get a text saying "Message could not be delivered due to network set up error"

Maybe try clearing the data under handcent then.

  12. I don't think it has anything to do with Sprint. My Hero (on Sprint of course, this *is* the Sprint section for the Hero... lol), suddenly decided not to send texts anymore, giving that same exact error, exactly 2 hours ago. One minute I was sending texts perfectly fine, and then suddenly it was throwing that error at me. I did nothing with any apps, and I certainly don't have Handcent installed.

When it doesn't give me that message (which arrives via "9230"), I get an error message saying "SMS Termination Denied" upon trying to send a message. No idea what's causing the issue, but it's getting annoying. I get the impression I'm not receiving texts either (haven't tried texting myself yet, but I'm certain I should've received texts from a few people by now). I guess we'll have to see what happens, eh?

Sprint seemed to have a nation wide texting outage last night.

I'm very surprised the Hero doesnt have a setting so that when a messages have been sitting there for 5 or 10 days, it automatically deletes.

I am currently having the same problem, texts won't delete. I am noticing a common factor.....its our girlfriend's faults for texting us so much XD

  17. i tried to clear the data also but it didnt work... and i dont have the handcent app installed... what could be the problem?!

I had close 1k text and was trying to delete. I received a couple of force closes and tried resetting only to see the 1k thread still there. What I did to make it work was to let it sit. eventually all the texts were deleted properly. now I do not let threads get over 200.

If I was getting texts from my girlfriend I'd have a different problem - my WIFE!

Thanks for the good info, though!
