    ..couple of questions..

1)I've had my desire for well over 6 months and decided to root after many months of pondering whether to..
I just wondered if anyone could shed any light on the specific security issues there may or may not be with using internet banking on my phone via the internet browser now that I'm rooted. Should I be worried that keystrokes could be logged now that apps potentially have access to my root? Might be major paranoia but would be good to know..

2)if anyone can point me to a nice clean sense free ROM where I can get apps to sd (only real reason I rooted) that would be cool

    Cheers
    Matt

You have to specifically grant any app requesting root access. The superuser app lists all your allowed and denied apps there

As before root, always read reviews before installing anything

Many of us rooted users are using ginger vilain, it's fast smooth and stable.

    Oh my Google!

I just saw the word sense, so I ignored the rest of that question. Yes +1 for gv. Love it

I've decided to try GV1.7 - when I say try I mean I've downloaded the ROM zip file!

I'm not completely stupid about rooting and flashing as I've been reading up on it for a few months - but doing it for yourself is another thing as I'm sure anyone can appreciate remembering back to their first ROM flash!

Basically, I want apps to sd (its cool I know there are tutorials for it) but what I would like to know is do I need to sort out my SD card before I flash GV1.7 or can I do it once its successfully running on my phone?

also - do I need to rename the GV1.7zip file to update.zip for it to find it when I boot to recovery and hit the "install from zip" option?

    Thanks for your help!
    Matt

you need to partition the card first (with gparted pref, see SU roots FAQ's), You dont need to rename the gv zip, just choose install zip from sd card.

thanks! damn I was hoping I wouldnt have to use gparted to do it, tried using ROM manager to partition and got some random e:/ inaccessible error.
there was me hoping I could flash the ROM straight away...

rom manager is C**p, gparted really isnt difficult. I know someone on here has some videos of it, but cant remember, think it might be infernal byte?

ahh OK thats not too bad then. One last question (sorry) do I have to flash a new radio? I'd rather not if I dont have to as I've read this can lead to bricks etc... plus I know the one I've got works fine :)

Dan why dont you recommend AmonRa recovery for partitioning sd cards?? I recommend it since Ive partitioned four sd cards through it with ease!

Can'trecommend something I haven't used. Not everyone wants amonra as their recovery and if anything goes wrong with partitioning or you want to change it, you need gparted anyway.

Plusi work in.it and prefer the.kind of solution where you use a dedicated piece of software for s specific job.

I like the GUI interface so you can see what you're doing or about to do.

no, just put Gv zip on root of your card, and install from recovery. First boots take up to 10mins as the dalvik cache is being built.
