I was excited and then...

I was all like YAY! and now I'm like....boo
LOL

I just got a Nexus S 4g.
It was a dollar at best buy and I don't care about the dualcore of the photon(99 dollars) or the 3d of the Evo 3D(199)

I was originally gonna get the echo because i really wanted it but alas Best Buy no longer sales them in store.

Anyway i've had this phone for 4 hours and right now I am just disappointed and confused lol.

I have 5 questions

1) Does this phone take forever to charge? It's been charging for an hour and it is only at 8%.

2)Phone has gotten hot a bit...overheat? Is this regular?

3)Phone randomly has cut off on me. Is the regular occurrence with this phone?

4)Touch Screen has frozen on me when i am trying to type or go through gmail...a simple locking the phone and unlocking it, has fixed the problem.
is this a regular occurrence?

5)This phone is set to vibrate yet it will NEVER vibrate for me whatsoever.
Has this happened to anyone?

I am trying to charge it because there is some update that Sprint is trying to push. It's like 20 MB so i want to download it...if the phone ever charges.

is it worth keeping this phone?
I really didn't want to have to drop 100-200 dollars for a phone. But i am not sure if this phone is good to keep for 18 months. Just need some help/advice.

I've only had this phone for 36 hours, so I'll do my best:

1) Does this phone take forever to charge? It's been charging for an hour and it is only at 8%. It takes a while, but not that long...it charges slower if your using it.

2)Phone has gotten hot a bit...overheat? Is this regular? It gets warm, when its working hard

3)Phone randomly has cut off on me. Is the regular occurrence with this phone? Explain.

4)Touch Screen has frozen on me when i am trying to type or go through gmail...a simple locking the phone and unlocking it, has fixed the problem.
is this a regular occurrence?Hasn't happened to me.

5)This phone is set to vibrate yet it will NEVER vibrate for me whatsoever.
Has this happened to anyone?Mine works.

It's possible you have a bad phone...check to see if there are any updates for your phone:

Menu > Settings > About Phone > Sprint system updates.

There are two updates you will need to install. One is ready now (2.3.5) the other is pushing out now (2.3.6) Most of us in the us haven't got 2.3.6 yet but Canada is getting it now then us in the next couple days. None of the fixes in these updates include problems your having. I have two nexus s 4gs and neither do any of this, return your phone before you get too deep into customizing it. Make sure and wipe it as well. The nexus is an awesome phone, don't let this bother you or change your mind, this happens to all phone models.

1)Jeez, charging this phone is awful lol. I had to put it down(which was hard since i was excited)

as far as the vibrate, that was my fault.
In the messagign app, the vibrate was set to never instead of always.

The touchscreen seems better now than last night so no complaints today.

It is awesome phone. In love with this screen, I just hope that those problems are not cosntant :/

Yes the screen rocks check settings-display and take off the auto brite and turn that sucker up all the way. I have mine up to full and no batt problems.

Well mine only gets hot when charging. I can tell you it is normal but using the cheap made data cable Samsung gives you I suspect that also doesn't help.
I have a spare data cable and it seems to not allow the phone to get hot but more like warmish.

my two cents on the battery charging...
if the battery gets to a certain temperature, it stops taking a charge.

so if you've been playing games on it for 2-3 hours, then realize your phone is hot and out of battery, if you plug it in, it won't charge. it has to cool down, then it will charge.

also, need to know what kind of apps you have on your phone. apps can cause problems, we all know that. so if you have handcent or a messaging app, it could tinker with your whole phone vibration. I had a volume control app on my phone and I had (*&%!@ trying to get the settings so it would buzz when I needed it to, and not buzz when I didn't want it to.

Yea I was worried about the slow charge time when I first got mine, of course I was also on it the whole time. Using phone+charging=slow charging+heat. Had mine for a month or so now and loving it.

Yeah using it and the phandroid app now and this phone is hot.

I'm gonba put it down so it can cool down and charge -_-

What kind of cord should I buy for better charging experience?

I'm really still contemplating the echo.

I don't think any of your issues are normal. Mine has none of those problems. I'd take it back to the store you got it for an Exchange... ASAP.

Personally, I only bought my Nexus to appease my need for a new device and replace my ailing EVO (while waiting to see what happens in October). If I had to use my upgrade with Sprint and get stuck with a device decision for the next ~2 years, I'd seriously reconsider getting the Photon.

Is it really worth it to save $100 on a phone you will have and use every day for the next 2 years?

Good point. I should pop over into their forums.
I wonder what issues(major issues) they are having
as far as their phone is concerned.

The epic touch 4G comes out on the 16th. It will be sprints best phone for a long time. Even if sprint gets the iPhone 5. I've preordered already. For once sprint got the best phone out of all the carrier versions of the galaxy s 2. We even got a notification light. None of the other got one. Lol.

I'm Glad that I'm not the only one.

I honestly love the phone. I'm glad I chose the Nexus over the Photon. But the charging time is slow. I have never seen it reach 100%.

I've read some posts about how people haven't seen the NS4G reach 100%. I've never seen mine charge past 97% and it's plugged in most of the day at work, streaming music from Google over WiFi. General consensus says it's something up with the calibration, rather than the device actually NOT charging to full capacity.

Wanna see it charge up quickly? In my experience, it charges stoopid fast if you turn it off. ymmv

I use the charger for my Kindle to charge mine, while it did charge slow when I got first got it and wouldn't stop using it to play games and such, it charges at a pretty decent rate now when not in use. Mine heats up now and then when charging and being used, but normally only if I'm playing a graphics intense game on it at the same time.

There was no need for me to make a new thread for these two questions.

1) does anyone have an issue with the music player/headphone Jack?

I'm just hanging around in the dorm common room area listening to music on my nexus and if the cord moves a certain way the music becomes distorted.

2) are the any screenshot apps that do not require root? Apparently jam just stupid when it comes to root because I can never figure root out and screenshot it requires root I believe.

And my computer is on the Fritz so I can't use the computer based apps.

Never took a screen shot so don't know, I don't have any issues with my headphone jack and I listen through headphones to and from work daily with the earbuds that came with it. It's possible that the headphones that you are using have an issue? I've had some like that before where turning them a certain direction would mess em up.

I use Philips headphones when I work out and listen to Slacker, moving it around quite a bit, don't have any issues. I have had issues when the jack wasn't all the way in. I had to really force it in past what I'd expect to push, the first few times as it was a new jack.
