Ice cream sandwich!!!

I have a razr maxx HD. I love the phone, and it needs ICS to manage dual core, but you know what? Gingerbread is a better UI. ICS has a lot of "under the hood" improvements but for ease of use I prefer gingerbread. Since Tbolt only has a single core I see no advantage in ICS other than novelty.
I'm trying to help a friend out that has a Thunderbolt. His "check update" is greyed out on his Software update settings. Pretty sure ICS is being pushed to Thunderbolts everywhere. What's the deal?
Thanks in advance
