Is it just me or does it seem that a lot of other devices are getting ICS well before the Bionic? Does anyone know what the status is on this?

We still do not know when the Bionic will get ICS - Motorola continues to list the Bionic as being in the "planning and evaluation" stage, though it has also promised that the Bionic will get an ICS OTA update - and so far there are very few devices that have received ICS updates. Almost all of them (perhaps it is all of them?) are GSM devices. I don't think that there is a CDMA device yet that shipped with Gingerbread that now has an ICS update, and that includes the CDMA Sprint Nexus S 4G.

If the Bionic doesn't receive ICS it'll be a big letdown by Moto.

I think end of Q3 is the earliest. I don't expect it any earlier. I think the biggest hold up may be the lapdock capabilities of the Moto phones. Maybe it's not playing nice with ICS. Of course that's my assumption.

I could only find one Motorola Media Center release about ICS, December 2011. An interview with Senior VP of SW development. His interview covered the work on the Razr, gave me the impression that the Razr is the first product to get ICS.

    Here is the link:
All About Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0): Executive Q&A with Dave Rothschild - News Bytes - Motorola Mobility, Inc.

Note the earlier post showing Motorola's plans was actually posted as a forum thread.

FYI, 3rd qtr shipments of smartphones was up over 26%, to 4.8 millions smartphones, a 20% increase in revenue.

The Bionic was listed as one of the five highlights for the mobile devices:

There were a few tweets that came out of the official Motorola twitter account. One was that the Bionic, Razr, and Xoom tablets would officially get ICS updates (with no word on timing.) Another said that within 6 weeks of the releases of the ICS source, they would announce more definitive timing on other handsets. That took way more than 6 weeks - it happened in mid-February - and still nothing definite about any Verizon phone. There was another that said that there would be new Motorola devices with ICS within 6 weeks of going public (no mention of carrier), but that obviously didn't happen.

When the RazrMaxx and Droid 4 were released, they were definitively promised ICS updates at some point as well.

I know that I never saw anything that promised anything about Q1 2012, but I may have missed something.

Been with moto since droid 1 first entered the market. I have no clue about other manufacturers but i can say dont hold your breath. Bionic will get it but moto/verizon takes their sweet time with any update and i can assure you they did with droid 1. Since the last update i have been happy with the phone and i can say with droid 1 when they upgraded to 2.2 i believe it was the anticipation was overhyped. Ya i would like to have ics but gut tells me its not going to be more amazing then where we are at.

I'm more excited of the port than the official release. :) All I want is a working webtop with ICS.

I really don't want to speculate it'll make the wait for ICS even longer. Lol

Yeah, I'm not really "waiting for it", but I was hoping the data drops might be addressed by it....

I'm just about fed up with the drops and rebooting the phone to get a data connection...

I don't think it's the phone or the software responsible for those at this point. 902 has had everything working well since it was released. In my area the past couple of weeks there has been some issues, but from what some friends of mine have said they have noticed it as well and they have different phones which lead me to believe my area is having some tower work done.

Now some people thought data drops also could have been due to bad sim cards and were urging people to have them replaced. So if you are having really bad data drops, you may want to get a new sim card and see if that helps.

I can attest to bad phones, also. My first bionic (launch day) never could hang onto either 3 or 4G. After three months I got it replaced and put that issue behind me.

Mine, my wife's and a friend of mine all have been having data drop issues, and has become progressively worse over the last coupe of weeks.

I have a Samsung Galaxy Nexus (with ICS) for work, it NEVER drops data connections...

    (sigh)...

Heading to local VZW store to argue...

    Employed schmuck (For now).
    Nowhere land..
As I've said in other threads, this bionic won't be getting ice cream sandwich! lol

I rooted it and stopped the upgrader! lol

When gingerbread was released, my droid x was trashed till I reverted back and my moms droid2 had battery life issues with that upgrade.

My rezound got wrecked with an update!

I truly believe to live and let live, but I have had ice cream sandwich on my rezound and wasn't terribly impressed.

So far, my experience with android phones and my new personal philosophy? If it works, then why mess with it. I'm sure others have had great success with their devices getting upgraded, I haven't. So this is just a personal opinion. :)
