    Hi,

I wanted to ask if anyone knows when ICS "Ice Cream Sandwich" will be released for Motorola Razr?

    Regards,
    Sult-an-droid.

No one knows. It is not going to be within less than 3 months.

Vaguely I think I heard somewhere on some forum or news site that the plan was mid feb; but I can't find the article/post now to confirm. Samsung seems to be hinting they will have the galaxy s2 ready in Jan - if that happens than I would tend to believe no later than sometime in Feb.

Based on Motorola's description of the release process here and Droid-Life's estimates and the history of the Gingerbread release time here we should see ICS in 4-6 months so I expect to see it in April-June at the earliest.

    I have a Question..

Do you guys think ICS on the Razr will improve the performance of the phone, or slow it down ??

    Yes. :)

I wouldn't expect any visible difference regarding speed.

i would actually expect to see an increase in performance. Especially if it's anything like the jump from Froyo to GB was on the DX.

I agree, based on what happened with the Droid X1. Although...ICS ...just from what I've seen.....is a totally different looking OS for Android phones. Folks with Android tablets kinda seen ICS already with Honeycomb.

Totally different looking OS + custom UI....there may be some hiccups on the RAZR stock ICS users dont see. Thats one plus for having stock Android....

Significant increases in performance are mentioned in the Androoid 4.0 Platform Highlights here, especially in browser performance. Initial benchmarks here show faster performance than the RAZR but some of that may be due to the 4460 CPU and faster SGX graphics processor. It is likely that the 4460 is slightly faster than the 4430 even though they are both running at the same 1.2GHz clock speed because the processor has been optimized compared to the 4430. A good description by TI on the improvements found in the 4460 can be found here. Note that TI renamed the 4440 to the 4460 in the middle of their development cycle.

I'm sticking with no VISIBLE difference - and I hope to be proven wrong (by the phone being much faster, as opposed to much slower).
I don't doubt that benchmarks will change, and the apps that measure system performance in milliseconds will see a difference. I just doubt that we humans will notice a difference in system speed. Yep, we'll have some cool new toys to play with, but I think that will be the main difference.
If ICS were so magical, then the Nexus would blow the Razr out of the water in day to day usage tasks. I think we all would agree that it doesn't... :)

By site reviews and user reviews....it shows Moto actually did learn something and made Moto Application Platform better.

I'd sure like to hope that we get a ICS ROM LONG before Moto puts theirs out....that would suck otherwise coming from the OG Droid that would get everything quicker.

I'm quite happy with RAZR performance today so as long as it isn't degraded with ICS all will be fine for me. I am looking forward to a UI that is closer to my Samsung Honeycomb tablets however.

I sent an email to Verizon about that question and they called back leaving a message saying when "ISC" comes out that the deivce will automatically down by it self. It will ask download now or later.
We will see what happens when it comes out.

My biggest hope for ICS improvements will be a better webtop implementation. I think they could gets some improvements with little effort.

ICS or not, this phone is already smoking fast. I have no reason to be sweating the release of ICS for the RAZR because of it's already quick performance. When it happens, it happens, and I mostly hope that it doesn't bring more problems than it's worth as Moto got things working smoothly on this RAZR rom.

I would rather wait for the version that has all the bugs worked out and is totally functional. I think the Nexus rushed things a bit...I have run ICS and this, totally different look and feel.

Mine is rooted and I'll be doing a backup before I attempt any ICS install, official or otherwise. I'm not gonna leave myself with a phone I'm not happy with if ICS isn't what it's cooked up to be!

Why would it get it before or after? It is EXACTLY the same phone with just bigger battery put in. It has the same software, the same everything so I see no reason for these phone not to receive the update AT THE SAME TIME.

    Android newbie lol
    Glasgow, Scotland, UK.
HTC have just announced a bunch of their handsets will be receiving ICS from end of March onwards. Sony also stated that their Xperia line-up would also receive ICS sometime in March. My question is, are Motorola even close to getting ICS on the Razr??? Any longer than March and i'd be pissed off especially if HTC and Sony have done it by then!!!
