I'm not new to Android, but I'm new to the benefits of ICS.

So, I guess the question(s) I have are:

    1. what on earth is\will ICS offer Skyrocket users, that other current OS's don't?
    2. why are Google\carrier(s) taking so long to release ICS for the Skyrocket?
    3. is this ICS a similar release to iOS 5, versus the old crappy iOS 3 & 4?

Thanks in advance, the responses to this thread will more than likely provide worthy information to many visitors

From what I've researched, first the phone manufacturer has to make sure the new OS runs smoothly on each device they offer that is capable of supporting the OS. Then the carrier has to do the same thing and add in their own bloatware.

Samsung's Touchwiz on the GSII LTE seems to already have some of the features that ICS will bring, so it will be interesting to see how useful the new OS is.

There are a few changes with ICS that I'm not sure I'll like, so I plan to read others' experience with ICS, particularly with the GSII LTE on this forum and others to gauge whether or not I'll install it.

I flashed my phone today to ICS...

Few minor changes nothing to get really excited about..

To take a screen shot now you hold power button then volume down and it takes a screen shot.

Lost the contacts function when touching the phone icon.

I was hoping it would improve LTE signal, I'm still limited to my front yard to get my LTE speed. 4G I'm getting 5 bars of coverage now.

Probably flash back to GB and wait for the official release of ICS unless I can get the official download when it comes out while running what I have now going to research that now.

Losing the contacts button on the phone screen was one of the things I'm not keen on, it's just a handy feature while you're on that screen. Not sure why they'd eliminate that, but then it might not be on the official release.

Do you know when the official release comes out will we be able to get it since we have a version running already? I'm assuming we would have to flash back to GB then get it. I do like that MMS we have the ability to tap and make the pics bigger without having to save them first.

No-one knows when as far as I know, from what I've read it's expected by June. I can wait until everyone else debugs and reviews it, I just don't see anything there that's a major development. I do understand that the more techie type guys enjoy playing around with the latest version and seeing what they can do with it, which benefits more casual users like myself.

Yea first time I have done this with a phone, was hoping it would improve my LTE signal I get it in my front yard but not in the house. I get about 25Meg down and 5Meg up on my porch drops to 4G when I go into the house. Judging by your screename I assume your into motorcycles?

I may reflash back to GB once I read how to do it. Scared shitless to flash ICS but felt a little daring today and decided to do it and had no problems.

I would probably go with the leaked ICS version too, if I thought I was going to gain some significant functionality. My wife's phone sometimes reverts to hspa+ when I'm right next to her and on lte. Her case is thicker than mine so I took it out to see if it was an antenna masking problem, and it apparently was as it picked up lte within about 10 seconds.

Yep, bikes are my indulgence, although only the one at the moment :(

I'm going to try and take my case off and see if that's the issue never thought about that.

I went back to 2.3.6 today, started getting a little buggy today. LTE signal dropped off and the swipe to call was taking numerous swiped to get it to work. I'll wait for the official release from now on.

Knowing at&t don't expect the update until about 6 months after the date of release(skyrocket's release). I can almost assure you that the update will be postponed and least one time before the official release.
