for novices who don't want to "root" whatever that is or break the intercept android OS, is there a way to instruct future app downloads to go to the SD card? And if left with just 10-15% free space on phone, beside dumping apps, anything else to do?
    thanks, Art

If by "download" you mean install, then no. 2.2 has the native ability to install and run apps from the sd card and that feature can be added to rooted 2.1 phones with app2sd. Unless you want to root, you'll have to prune out the apps you don't use to make space for new until(?) 2.2 is released.
