I have a dear friend who walks to work often. She does get rides on occasion from other co-workers but frankly they aren't terribly friendly to her and I am concerned. Most days she texts me when she gets home, but it's a far walk and sometimes she simply forgets or falls asleep from the added exertion. Which inevitably leaves me fretting and texting like crazy.
Because she's not terribly tech savvy, I tried this out on my two phones first, mostly to screenshot the exact steps she will need to take in the app. Thus far, I've not recieved a single text or email. Perhaps I'm not getting far enough away from my location to register entering location?

Good on you for wanting to look out for your friend. There are a number of apps in the Play Store focused on women safety issues. Take a look at:
    Chilla https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=comm.Kishlay.screamDetector
    SOS App https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rosanasolutions.watchoveryou
    bSafe https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bipper.app.bsafe
Read through their the descriptions and look through their screen caps to see what might be most suitable for her and your situation. These are just suggestions of course, there a numerous other options and most have varying feature sets so find the one that seems to be the most appropriate. Then sit down with your friend, install and configure the chosen app (...and make sure she leaves services like mobile data and location enabled during her commutes), and don't forget to do a couple of tests to make sure it's working the way you both want.

Thanks for the suggestions! Will be looking into them. Her work is not terribly safe as it is unfortunately. She loves the work but her co-workers are beyond rude. (They've stolen from her, spread rumors and lies about her, one even pointed a gun at her at one point. But she needs the job!) Hoping this will keep her somewhat safer until something better comes along.

Agreed! We've been going over some of the other safety things she might be able to do to defend herself. Tasers, pepper spray, even self-defense classes online as it's a pretty remote area she walks to and from. The whole thing just infuriates me as it really shouldn't be this way when she's just trying to keep her head down and keep steady employment. Even her walking has been hindered by people calling the cops multiple times merely for walking by their houses, in an area where most don't walk unless it's for exercise, merely to harass her. But I do try to remind her, given everything, having the cops called may be to her advantage since she's experiencing this level of danger on an almost daily basis.😊
