If I apply root, does it wipe my phone. Do I loose all installed programs? Will I essentially be starting from scratch? I have a few programs I paid good money for that I don't want to loose.

Inquiring minds want to know. :)

Can someone who rooted confirm that nothing gets deleted? I have some games that I have unlocked a lot of stuff on and I don't want to start from scratch but root sounds like something I want to do.

The market remembers what you've purchased, you'll be able to redownload any paid apps you might have bought.

I'm kind of new to this so can someone help me out please. I understand rooting makes you a superuser and essentially makes what you can do limitless but I have three main questions. How long is it going to be until there is a way to undo it? When I first root, like the second I'm finished can I use the phone exactly the way I had before but now with more potential stuff? And how easy would it be to brick trying to root it?

I can speak to #2, I have never rooted, and already had the android sdk installed, less than 10 minutes after i started, my phone was exactly the way before i started, EXCEPT i had root, removed city ID and installed and tested wifi tethering, none of the steps led me to believe it was even remotely possible to be rooting your phone, just type line by line and do exactly what the instructions say.....

Rooting works but you have to follow the instructions EXACTLY as listed or it won't work. I thought I could avoid the "Add HTC Sync" step but wouldn't work until I did. Go figure. :)
