If I root my phone, can I get rid of all the extra apps added by the carrier? And can I stop Sense 3.## from using up all of my RAM? How do I do this?

Yes you can remove the carrier apps on your device by rooting. And you can also get rid of Sense and run stock Android if you wanted. All you need to do is let me know which device you have, and I would be happy to direct you to the right place.

B2L, thank-you for your reply. I have the Sensation 4g. I am really just looking for a way to free up some RAM. I actually quite like Sense, or more particularly the dialer, contacts, and camera app that come with it. I actually just returned a Nexus S because I missed the dialer and HTC camera. I am really tired of the touch screen freezing up though, and hoping that freeing some memory might help with this.

do you have that much apps loaded? there is a lot of space in the sensation RAM. unless you installed over 100 large apps.. then it is not a RAM issue.

that phone also has a very powerful cpu..

so it is not the phone or sense that is ... "freezing up"

    there maybe..
    1. a bad/rough app that is causing lockups
    2. a hardware issue (bad phone)

can you reproduce the "freezing"? where and when?
you might want to show this to the carrier and look to getting the phone replaced.

I was just wondering, is Sense really uninstallable? I mean Samsung's TouchWiz has too many dependencies that uninstalling it will cause more problems than just leaving it alone.

Yes Sense is very integrated with HTC's stock rom. You can remove parts without issue. You could get a non-Sense or desensed roms which are still built on sense framework but with most parts of sense removed, or you can go AOSP where there will be no trace of Sense at all like a nexus phone.
