So before you rush to the best buy and grab your new evo you may want to call sprint and find out more about the perk of being a premier customer. I am eligible for an upgrade, I called today to find out more details of an offer I once heard, that I saw reiterated in another post on the forums.

Basically sprint gives you (the premier customer) $70 account credit if you decide to stay with them for an additional 2 years.
First thing that comes to your mind is why would I take that when I get 150 off my next phone. Well It does not negate your upgrade, However if you try to get the credit after taking out your new evo next friday you might not be able to.

As proof I went ahead with it see below

I advise you to at least call to find out for yourself.
FYI they also told me the date of your contract termination would be when you actually sign up for the new phone.

That's my bill after i spoke to sprint rep. It only applies to your bill and not to accessory purchase.

You guys may be missing the point.

It's not about your Eligible Upgrade, it's about calling Sprint on the phone before you pick up your EVO and telling them you want to renew your line to a new 2-year contract. With that, they will give you a $70 credit on your bill, and you still keep your upgrade. (So, when you pick up your EVO, you are renewing your plan anyways, but at the same time, you got a $70 credit prior to picking it up)

After I picked up my HTC Hero and renewed my contract, a member on my plan called Sprint and Sprint gave $70 credits to the other 3 phones that didn't renew so I had a $210 credit on my account.

Because I returned my Hero, I am going to call Sprint again before I pick up my EVO to get the $70 credit on my line.

It's nice to see Sprint taking care of their long time customers. One of the things that's always pissed me off about the other carriers is that they give better deals to new customers than they do those that have been loyal.

I still have 1 year left on my contract, but I can renew as of June 1st.

Doubt this credit will work me since I have time left on my contract.

How does this affect my preorder then? When I go to pick it up is it going to cause any potential problems when they try to activate it?

Id try to get it again. makes sense that you should be able to. If you do or don't get it let us no please.

Apparently if you deny the offer you can loose it. I moved my girlfriends number from her parents family plan to my own yesterday. There was no contract involved no increase in payments since her mom's plan and my own had less than 2 additional phones combined with her phone.

Today when I tried to get the 70 bucks credit with her number (since it was out of contract) i couldn't maybe it would be a loophole catch that you can't just add a premier member to your account then get the 70 bucks and move them back. So if your planning on moving accounts find out if you will loose the credit before you do so.

She says it will not affect your pre-order that's based on whether you qualify for an upgrade or not. Not depending on your contract status. The 70 bucks does depend on your contract status though. Hence if you call after you upgrade your contract getting the evo, it will no longer be available.

Yea, just got off the phone with Sprint and she explained that the $70 credit only works if you are close or have an expired service agreement with them. I am a premier customer using their 1yr upgrade for equipment perk and will not get the $70 credit for contract renewal because there is still actually a year left on my contract. So it won't work for me.

Guess it depends who you talk to. My contract was originally up in November of 2010, and I got $70 credit per line a month ago.

Last time I called Sprint to see if they could move my upgrade date, they said one of my lines was eligible for an upgrade and if I extended today they would give me $70 and "still be eligible for upgrade pricing on a phone when I wanted to use it".

It's been discussed several times. I already did that for the 3 lines that I have, but good to make it a thread to discuss.

Can't wait to get my EVO!

I had been debating on switching to another carrier.....AT&T, (there service here is pretty good.) My wife was not so happy with the possible change. I too was a Little weary of going to AT&T because of the stories that I have heard about their CS, and I have been with Sprint for 10 years, but I had grown tired of waiting for a "cool" new phone and my current contract expires on June 22. Just in time to get the new iphone.

Then the rumor mill started about the EVO. I did some reading, my parents both got new Motorola Droids, and I was hooked, I had more or less made up my mind that I was staying with Sprint. About a short time later, a Sprint CS rep called me and asked how my service was going and if I had any issues that he could address. Like all of these phone calls I get, usually about 1 a month, I rarely have any issues, just basic questions. I told him that I wanted to get the EVO and that I was actually awaiting its arrival. He chuckled then said, "if you are willing to renew your contract for another 2 years, Sprint will credit your account for a month worth of service and you will still be able to upgrade in a month and a half when the EVO is released" I agreed and should be getting a credit of about $135 on my next bill. This is the second time they have done this for me.

Thats lame, I just called sprint and they said I can't have the upgrade and have the 70 dollar credit.

    Oh well.
    Thanks for the tip though.

?...The $70 credit isn't even connected to the phone upgrade. It's connected to "long term" standing with Sprint. If you've been with Sprint for a long time and have extended for 2 year agreement in the past, they should be willing to give you that credit.

6 years for me prolly, my contract expired on 5/13, I will chat with them later if I can get on their piece o crap chat:mad:

Don't relate it to the phone upgrade. Just say that you've received a "customer appreciation" credit in the past for extending your contract with Sprint for 2 years. And then ask if they still have that program. Then, once they say they'd be happy to give you the $70 credit, just say you want to make sure that won't impact your "full upgrade" eligibility and their appropriate response should be, "No sir. The $70 credit has no connection to your upgrade eligibility."

If the 1st Tier rep gets that wrong, ask for a floor manager.

I would assume that my upgrade mean that my contract has expired right? How do I know which phone has the premiere status. Back in Jan. we were swapping stuff around to get upgrades on different lines, so I have no idea anymore.

    drexappeal Extreme Android User

Just saw that you have the Hero. If you got the "full discount" price on that phone and extended your contract for 2 years at that time, that would mean you still have 1 year remaining on your agreement (Didn't that come out last year?). At that point, it'd be understandable that you didn't get the $70 credit. If you're a Premier Member, it gives you phone upgrade eligibility every year, but it doesn't mean you're at the end of your contract.

For Premier Members that are on a family plan, only the Primary account number gets the "premier" benefits. Your online account should state, which is which.
