Man anyone else notice how its so hard to find everything you want in one set of headphones? sound stage, positional accuracy, enough bass that metal songs won't sound lacking but, also won't sound all wompy..

Ontop of that you don't want the rest of the sounds outside the bass to suck.

Define "good headphones". What you pay is what you get.
Mid-range in-ear quality headphones (Sennheiser or AKG or Creative or similar) are probably good enough for most of the users.
For high-end, I've tried Shure headphones and they were superb.

I had some klipsch ear buds for the ipod and the sound was horrible. I was thinking of getting over the ear ones as they are more comfortable than those in ear ones over time. I bought some cheap sony ones and they do good for now.

Have you ever owned a pair? I'm on my third set. First got stolen, I closed a car door on the second and I've had my titans for hella long. Lol. Skullcandy are awesome. Better than the beats audio and cheaper too.

Comparing Sennheisers to Skullcandys is like comparing a Boss 302 to a Vantage v12......>.> Theyre far from crap. lol. To each their own though I guess...haha.

sorry but imma have to chime in and agree that skull candy's are crap as well. they are way to tinny for the highs and majorly muddy bass, granted for the price their decent, and at the super low price point (<50$) i guess they're some of the best, but when you get into the price around 100 or so they just start to really suck. Actually come to think of it skull candys are great for the average person, but for anyone who considers themselves and audiophile in the least they crap ;P

I think they are crap for the average person as well. Just the "average" person usually has not had the chance to listen to a really great pair of cans to compare.

I use Skull Candy headphones as well. Sure, they "suck" if you are an audiophile. They'll lose badly when compared to a set of Sennheiser or Bose headphones.

However, at $10 per pair, and when paired with a cell phone, they give superb performance for their price.

If you expect really good sound from a CELL PHONE, well... If you are looking for superb sound from a Marantz studio recorder, well of course the Skull Candy headphones would be sub-par for the job.

There are people on headfi that insist that oxygen free cables sound "warmer" too...

And, I'm sure those $20 pair will sound just a tiny bit better than the $10 Skull Candy set...

When it comes to sound quality, it's always price vs. performance vs. use case.

For example, for me to believe that a set of headphones will make a 64K audio stream somehow sound better, but costs double the price; I'd laugh at the person.

Now, if someone were to insist a $400 pair of studio headphones will sound better than a $10 set when connected to a studio recorder, I'll probably believe them. And, if I were listening to a studio recording unit, I'd most certainly want the most accurate sound reproduction possible.

Nobody said anything about streaming audio cause that will always sound like shit in the near future. OP also said good headphones not the lowest price that does not sound like a baby screaming.

Fact is snow_fox needs to come back and tell us what he is using these for and what his budget is. Since he seems to know some of the descriptive terms for what he is looking for, so I would assume that Skullcandies are not going to fall into his definition of "good."
