I finally got to play with the 4G service on my Droid Charge this weekend and I am really impressed. When I was with Sprint, the 4G topped out for me in Raleigh at around 2.5Mbs down. On the way to Atlanta I pit stopped somewhere around Spartanburg, SC and noticed that I was picking up a 4G signal so I thought I would Speedtest it and see what it would get. I was very surprised to see that it is very close to my home speeds at almost 30Mbps down. I thought it was an anomaly so I tried it again and got similar numbers. When I got to Atlanta I typically pulled about 18Mbps down and about 6Mbps up. The ping times weren't that great and I have no real use for those speeds but it's still really cool.

This is my typical Raleigh Speeds

My download speeds have been in the 5-6MB/s range, upload about 2-2.5 which is pretty good. Not the 20MB/s I have seen others report, but not slow either.

I'm in the Tampa Bay Area and have only had the opportunity to use my phone here.

I'm in the same area as the poster stopped at in SC and I never see these speeds, when I test I never get over 7mbps down and 6 up. I've seen the speeds, but haven't witnessed it on my own yet.

Speeds will vary wildly with the amount of coverage you have. In my apartment and at work my LTE coverage is low, and I will only get about 2-5 mbps down and sometimes under 1 up. However when I am within visual range of the tower, I get over 30mbps down. The same tower provides all of that coverage.

I would totally be happy with 2-5Mbps down if I can get it in the majority of the city. It would be a lot better than what I get with 3G. Sprint 4G was super spotty and covered a very small amount of the city. Being that I had to use an Airave, I definitely was getting 4G at home.

Yeah 4G here in ATL is really good, I routinely get over 12mbps down and 3-5mbps up, was a tad disspointe din St. Louis last week when consitently only would get 2-5 down and 1-3 up. not bad, but expected more.

DFW has been fairly disappointing in the last few days. A week or so ago I had been getting 10 - 12 Mbps download speeds....even got a whopping 32 at one point. Since July 4th, it's been ranging between 3 - 5 Mbps.

Maybe Big Red is tweaking the network?

Fastest perhaps, most reliable...not so much for those of having no data connectivity issues. :(

I'm new to Verizon, so what is the no data connectivity issue?

Sometimes when you show plenty of signal you cannot get any data back/forth to the network... just sits and looks at you.

I've experienced this a couple times, but not much in Tampa Bay.

Oh OK, that happens to me here from time to time. Usually I can disable the mobile connection and re-enable it and it will pick it up. It's kinda annoying, but I guess there are worse problems to be had... like the reboots that my Tbolt had or the constant dropped calls that my EVO had.

For many of us, when trying to access a website, we get a "No data connectivity" box pop up. Despite showing more than adequate signal strength, there is no data downloaded and each time you try to access a site, that box pops up. Very frustrating, especially when someone right next to you with a 3G-only phone is merrily going from site to site.

This is a phone that can REALLY embarrass you when you say to your friend with a 3G phone "want to see how fast this puppy is?". When the access is there, it's very fast, but when it's not, it's in a state of suspended animation.
