Incredible 2 Battery Saving tips thread

Discussion in 'Android Devices' started by nate.kelmes, Apr 29, 2011.

  1. Update....I turned on my phone 50min ago. Battery is at 87%

    A program called PVMtpServiceStart took 60% of my battery..Display was 25%...voice is 6%.....android system 3%....cell standby 2%....phone idle 2%....android OS 2%.

What is PVMtpservice start. That was what I saw when I first took my phone off the charger this morning and I guess what i meant earlier which was applications drain

After a little googling I found that PVMtpServiceStart is related to the blockbuster app that comes stock on our phones. If you go to the Android Market and update this app then go into the app and disable auto updates then restart your phone the service will no longer run.

This is very strange because I haven't seen this service running much less eating my battery... so i'm not sure why it's running for you and not for me. Anyone else seeing this running in their current services?
  3. Yes very unusual. I also googled and read what you read. I updated th blockbuster app and went to their settings tab and it does not let u change the updates. It actually only lets you active your phone or not activate it for the movies. That is all. I think they took those features off because i tried every possible way to find the auto sync feature with no luck.

Just got the D.INC.2, and really like it. Very happy I passed on the fruit company offering :D.

First couple charges had a lot of standby time & less use (I let the phone drain overnight) - really good "up" time, around the 20 hour mark.

Today was a good test of heavy use, lots of angry birds, amazon music locker, talking on the phone, went running using map my run with GPS for an hour, ect. Heavy use. Still got 13 hours.

In both cases, app killer was used, 30-40% brightness, and when i was not using services, I turned them off i.e. datasync. Yay widgets.

I'm really happy. All I need is my otterbox to show up & i'll be all set. I figure after the novelty wears off and i stop compulsively playing with it, I'll be able to get through a full day no problem.
  5. Good news. I fixed the problem. I went to the verizon store and they looked at my phone. They said the PVMtpServiceStart which was using all the battery is a phone program and can't be uninstalled but it also should not be running like that and likely a app was activating it to run constantly. They did a factory reset on my phone and the hope was that when apps got redownloaded to make sure each one did not activate PVMtpServiceStart. I didn't install all my apps back on and also did not see the PVMtpServiceStart get activated anymore...woohooo. I charged up my battery and played with it a little before bed....and of course a little this morning and through the day. My phone has been unplugged 16 hours and I still have 42% battery left. I guess this is what battery life looks like. YAY!

Good to know. So what app do you think may have been the problem?

Is there a way to stop apps running that I'm not using? like VZ Navagator, Facebook, Flickr. none are on any of my screens but when I look at the apps running they are listed.

Also I would call myself a Med User. Good amount of texting, some emails (gmail). check twitter 2-3x a day. I have screen down to 20% gps off, wifi off and I can't get thru 6 hrs.

    What should I do..?

I used my Inc2 all day yesterday and when I went to bed around 11, it was around 70-80%.

I ran the FM tuner for about 2 hours strait while I was out kayaking, had a few phone calls, lots of texting and email and some web browsing. MUCH better than my OG Droid, even on CM7.

My only widgets are the HTC clock/weather which updates every 3 hours and GMail unread count.

anyone can say whether or not there actually is break-in period for these batteries? i'm wondering because so far i am getting pretty poor battery life on my phone. hoping that its a break-in period i have to get through before seeing what everyone else has been seeing.

The caveat to this post is that I do not know anything about the battery technology. With that out of the way, my battery seems way better now that it has been through a few cycles. I don't think that my use has changed dramatically from my first post. I wish I had some science to back it up but I don't.

yeah I've seen posts going both ways so I'm wondering what people are experiencing. I think that there is too much disagfreement about the science of it all, but experience, imo, trumps the science. So I'm just hoping that I can find some good news here (that there is a break-in period)

I can say this. I have had this phone for almost 2 weeks. The first 4 days I could not get 5hrs with out it going down to 20% not I can go all day with Mod use. What changed? Not sure. I can say I took off the CNN app. All others I left. But I can say I did 2-3 factory re-sets. wiping the phone. Then it started lasting better. IS that break in?

I love my phone.. a lot, but I am still not having much luck with battery life. I have tried virtually every solution offered above, have deleted a ton of apps.. (which is a shame, cause part of the reason I got this phone was because of the apps), and it still drops so fast.. I must be missing something. Yesterday, about noon it was at 46%.. set it on the table while gardening, No wifi on, no gsp... and 3 hours later it was 19% :(

It has to be from sync'ing too often and/or hyperactive widgets. Not sure what else would cause the battery to drain so much while sitting idle. Weak cellular signal causing it to search and/or boost radio output?

Have you looked at the report on Settings>About Phone>Battery? It would be nice to know the before/after numbers after letting it sit idle for 3 hours.

Good signal. Only have mail to sync often.. but will double check the others..

Just read about that so going to be checking after it runs down some today.. When I looked after charging it over night, it looked identical to the screen grab Nate posted above a ways. It has just dropped from 99% to 89% in about an hour of no use, other than a few txt messages and an e-mail. Says
    Display 68%
    Cell Standby 12%
    Phone idle 11%
    Android System 4%
    Android OS 3%
    Com.htc.launcher 2%

    Does that tell anyone anything??
I VERY much appreciate the help

For a few text messages and a couple of emails, that seems very high. Is your display staying on and not going out?

Edit - mine has been off the charger for 8 hours, is at 74%, and my display number is 28%

I have it to time out in 2 minutes, but usually screen lock to turn it off sooner.. a habit when I put it down... could pushing the screen lock be doing it?????

Mine is set for 30 seconds. You should try setting it there and see what happens.

K.. I use the voice to text feature for txt messages sometimes.. is that a bad battery hog?

I don't think so. I do that all the time too. And I use Nuance's Flex-T9 keyboard which is great and has the VTT option as well.

At a full charge I only get 3-4 hrs on the battery life with just mild use.

Got it to a full charge on Monday and took it off battery at 10:41am.

With moderate usage (app downloads/updates, e-mail syncing, 15 minutes playing games, small amount of voice - 30/45 minutes, max, random web browsing, facebook/e-mail/twitter/tapatalk).

Connected to WiFi while at work and at home. I turn the WiFi off while I am driving and also turned syncing off while I slept.

I started writing this around 5:10pm, Tuesday, so at 30.5 hours off charge, I still have about 30% of my battery left.
