    Hey guys,

Is it possible to use mifi on the Incredible or does one have to have root access to have it. I saw a video of a Droid paired with an iPad and thought that it would be a pretty awesome setup as I'm considering getting an iPad.

Thats called wireless tethering. Yes you need root for that, but root is not available yet. You can tether the phone to a laptop via a usb cable right now and share your internet connection through your laptop via its wifi, but thats abit complicated.

To be clear, "mifi" refers to using a phone or other mobile device as a mobile hotspot, permitting multiple wifi devices to use the data connection provided by the hotspot. The Incredible cannot, and will not ever, do this. Only certain phones, such as the HTC EVO, can serve as mifi devices.

Tethering, on the other hand, refers to using a phone to provide a data connection to one device. Almost always, the connection is made through a USB cord or through bluetooth. The Incredible can do this now with commercial software, and would be capable of doing this for free with root.

So the Droid can do it but according to you the Incredible will NEVER be able to do this?

Mind backing up your firm statement

Well he's sort of right. When it's rooted it will because it will become an ad hoc wifi tethering connection like our lovely rooted Droids, but as far as using the device in the way HTC and Verizon intended, that functionality will likely never be included.

No, I'll retract it instead. With root, all things are possible, possibly.

I guess I misunderstood. I thought he/she meant that even with root it will never be possible which was a very puzzling.
