    Hi,

My Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 suddenly incurred a wifi problem and is not connecting to a network anymore. I tried factory reset, but doesn't help. And I lost my apps of course.

I thought I will use my beloved Nokia Here Maps app by installation via apk file. I managed to download and install it, but as soon as I try to open, it asks for a wi-fi connection. And because I have none, it closes.

I know this app can work offline, because I used to use it like that, but perhaps it needs a wi-fi network to begin with.

What could be a solution to bypass this, so that I can use my tablet as a GPS at least.

    Thanks.

Can you sign in with your Gmail / Google account? Then head to the play store and reinstall your apps, if it doesn't start it automatically.

Thanks for replying. But as I said, I am not able to connect to wi-fi at all. Otherwise I won't even need the apk installation.

If the app your trying to install requires internet. then that's what it needs. Here Maps is an online GPS internet mapping app, so that would definitely require internet access to get its mapping data, that's it.

    Hi,
Open google play store menu settings.
Select auto update over wifi and mobile data.
Install here map from google play store over mobile networks.

    @mikedt

Thanks for your response. But I know that this app can be used offline, as I used to use it like that all the time before I got this wifi problem.

It's just that by default the offline mode in the app is checked off, and perhaps that's why wifi signal is the first thing the app looks for. I thought may be I can bypass this, and use it in offline mode.

    Regards

This might be the application attempting to verify it's status. Paid apps, and some unpaid, require a key check. This is to avoid piracy or copyright infringement. Where did you download this apk from?

That makes sense. I guess then there is no way I can use it. I got the apk file from apk4fun dot com though.

Are you still trying to install the app? I use adb install then drag the app into cmd on your PC. I guess I shouldn't skim through, apparently you have the app installed.

If you're rooted you could try TitaniumBackup's "remove market link" feature, but this is more to prevent an unwanted update. I have had limited success with it. Not sure if it is a Pro feature or not either.

Apk4fun looks like a clean site BTW.

    No, I haven't rooted.

I am just using this otherwise gorgeous display device as audio player only for time being, and if by a stroke of luck I get a wifi-signal albeit for a short time, perhaps I can set the Here Maps app into offline mode and use the tablet as GPS.

I could spend hours researching this, so I think I will hand it off to you. Doesn't look very promising , but there is a lot to look through. Google search - Wi-fi dongle for android or any variation of that. Good luck.[IMG]

I wonder if you can use your Bluetooth and tether to another device. You could share it's WiFi connection that way.
