As a rule, custom ROMs do offer better battery life, what are you getting at present?

its hard to say for sure. ive had the phone for 4 or 5 days now. i take off charger at 7am and by 5pm i usually have 15-30% left. this is with moderate amount of use. Screen on for at least a few hours during the day, a game here and there, a bit of surfing, texting. Wifi and 3g only on when i need it. no auto syncing. Screen brightness very low. Basically whatever i can do to save battery life.

Its annoying because i dont want to stress about things. If i can do what i want with the phone and still make it through the day, great. But i dont want to limit myself.

Oh, and battery use always says the display is high. Like 60-80% of use. So im not sure if a ROM will lower the use for the screen. Not sure how or if that would work. But that seems to be the issue.

If you've only had it for 4-5 days, it should get better. Generally speaking, the battery is rubbish for the first 10-14 days anyway, it takes a while to bed in. From what you've said, you do seem to be doing all the right things in an attempt to increase your battery life. From what you've said, that could potentially be classed as heavy. Web browsing and Gaming are battery hogs.

Is this your first smart phone or have you used an Android handset before?

I'm not saying don't install a custom ROM btw, I just think it would be better to try and get more life out of your current setup rather than voiding the warranty of a phone that is less than a week old.

This is my first smart phone yes.

I just compare it with a coworkers iphone4 and he seems to get really good life out of his battery. and yea, i want to install a rom as a last resort. I dont want to have a useless $500 phone. I like ideas like reseting and doing a proper deep cycle charge. but even stuff like this it seems can only be done if rooted.

And the HTC rep i talked to was not helpful at all. Just told me to turn brightness down. and all that. I want to give the phone a chance because it really is awesome. Other than the battery.

Leave it a week or so, I was lucky to be getting 8 hours out of average use for the first 10 or so days of having the phone. Now, on the same usage, I can get circa 2 days.

When the phone is at about 10-15%, check the battery stats, what else does it say is using the battery?

You're not comparing like for like though... each smart phone is slightly different - almost like comparing a donkey with a horse... similar, but not the same!

You can reset your phone without rooting - do you mean reset the battery stats? I think there you'd be right... think you can only do this with root access. Should only really need to do this if you flash a different ROM though.

I have seen on here somewhere an explination of "plug in until fully charged, unplug for 1 hour, plug in for 10 mins..." can't remember the exact wording... it "conditions" the battery (not actually the battery, but this tells the phone when it has a fully charged battery) - will have a look and post a link to it (although El P will probably get in there before me!)

That does sound a little rubbish - think he probably meant to set it yourself, rather than leave it on auto!

You'll get there in the end... loving even the battery! :)

in fact - the battery "conditioning" I was taling about in my last post is in that thread...

Hope that is of some help!
