The hebrew itself is usually not a problem in foreign firmwares. The only problem is the bi directional support, specifically the numbers show up backwards in sms and in general. For the hebrew itself, read here:

So I struggled with this a bit, but since I found all the information that I needed on forums like this, I decided to write a small tutorial on how to install Hebrew fonts on the i7500. You need root to do this.

The credit goes to Gilad Ben-Yossef, he wrote the original

    Thanks.
Everything went as you said until loaded Hebrew.sh.
It did not reboot. It says
    Needs su: true
which seems to be something about root access. Which maybe the Xperia cannot do since it uses Android 1.6. (apprently an upgrade to 2.n is coming)
So I switched phone on and off. Also took out battery for 5 minutes. No luck.

    Any ideas?

dude this is a Samsung Galaxy forum. you should ask in the Xperia forum about how to gain root access.

also, i dont know if you need root access for this. what i did was download the font pack in the thread tsphere posted and push it into /system/fonts. this gives you hebrew fonts but no right to left support.
