Installing older Maps on the new Nx 7?

I do not like the new, crippled Google Maps, so I deleted them from my original Samsung Galaxy Nexus phone and re-installed v. 6.14.3 from an apk file. However, a similar trick on the new Nx 7 didn't work as I could not delete the new version.

Has anybody been able to do that? Any suggestions?

I feel the same, I hate version 7 and above of Google Maps.

I used Titanium back up and removed the maps. I was then able to load 6.14.4 version and it worked just fine. You need to be rooted to use Titanium.

Thanks for the suggestion. In the past, I did not see a compelling reason to root my devices, but now, I do. I assume I would have to wipe off my device to root it?
