    Hi guys,

I have an LG G Stylo, and I WAS using the Google Maps GPS function to take me home. Suddenly, the volume went up, and a loud static came through and a male voice was talking. It lasted for a good thirty seconds before resuming to the GPS audio. The screen reflected no changes. Did my phone intercept a police radio signal? What else could it be? Has anyone else experienced something like this?

There is a small chance that a local radio made its way into your system, and was played through your speakers. I would have to be a fairly strong signal, so it would have to be a 50 Watt, or probably stronger, transmitter, and be very close.

Could indeed be RF breakthrough. I used to get it years ago on my audio system, every time a fire engine went past the house, could hear it breaking through on the speakers. This was in the UK, back when the emergency services were using analogue VHF radio, before digital TETRA.

Perhaps there's something more sinister going on? Was the "male voice" describing exactly what you were doing?

Before I got cable, a guy using a really strong CB Radio systems broadcasts used to come through over my TV. In your case though I'm pretty sure you intercepted Alien Invasion signals. Luckily your phone and not the intended recipient received it so we're safe for now. Now that I don't have to worry about that... I really think you ran into a strong CB radio signal. Truckers still use them every now and then.
