Ok so basically its the same as an SD card... that's great, I just wanted to make sure that since the files are actually stored within the phone that they wouldn't erase if I reset it.

Could you tell me how to put apps on my actual SD card so it doesn't take away space in my phone? I'll probably just use it for that and not any actual media files.

Go into Settings ---> Applications ---> Manage Applications and wait for this list to be populated with not just the applications but the amount of memory they are using up. Select a larger app and on the next screen if the the app can be moved to the SD card you'll be able to push the Move to SD button. Repeat the process for each app.

I hope this helps. シ

ICS will let you do this, but you won't need it to do ... about 2GB internal storage for apps to install should be enough :)

Alrighty then! Just moved a bunch of stuff to Phone storage. I see that is where TWRP was already putting my nands, have over 3 gig of them on there and prob another 3 on external sd card.

Are there any good deals you guys know of regarding any 32 gig class 10 sd cards??? :)

edit: I went ahead and ordered another Patriot 16 gig class 10 from amazon, free shipping and less than 15 bucks.

i need a bit more room than this cheap 8g I got when I bought the phone. i also need something faster for when I do transfer stuff to it.

My Evo LTE has internal storage and when I plug in into my computer, I see 'sd card' as one of the folders but nothing is in it (just a randomly named folder with no files). Isn't the whole thing supposed to act as an sd card? Why are there folders that are on their own and nothing in the 'sd card' folder? I don't want to accidentally lose all my files. If I ever restore my phone to factory settings will I lose what is stored on my internal storage?

I have been searching for a good offline newsreader, and came across newsrob, which seems to do everything I want.
After setting it up, however, I notice something I don't understand.

Here is the info from my settings/storage screen:

Internal Storage:
Total Space:
2.09 GB

Apps:
calculating...

Available:
1.12GB

Phone Storage:
Total Space:
9.93GB

Available:
1.97MB

Storage Card:
Total Space:
27.74GB

Available:
27.53GB

My storage card is a 32GB, but it looks like not much is being used.

Any idea what is going on or what I can adjust to fix this issue?

This probably has nothing to due with newsrob, that's just what alerted me to a possible problem.

I also just realized that I cannot perform a screen capture, I just get a triangle/exclamation point thing.

Thanx!!!

It says you have 27.53 GB available on your SD card. The phone storage is what your phone has built in, storage card is your SD card.

If you want to store more of your apps on the SD card go into Settings > Apps then select each app you want to move to the SD card

Here's the thing, does the partition actually allow people to move apps to the SD card? I could've sworn that it was mentioned elsewhere that the partition only allows apps to be moved onto the internal storage area for media, when moving to the "sd card," which is exactly how it is on the Photon.

If this has been resolved and someone has figured out a way to trick the phone into moving everything to the external SD, please post a link so I can read into it.

It's a root trick, swapping the internal and external mount points for the sd cards.

This morning when I got up, there was a message from newsrob that it has run out of space to store articles.
Is there any way to get my apps like this to use the SD card for storage?
I have tried changing settings in newsrob. (local cache/storage provider/ local or SD card, neither changes anything)
I don't want to pick on newsrob, it is just easy to see my issue with this program since it wants to store so much information.

Nice. Only for ltevo or all phones. You know me, EM. I've been delaying joining the root train, until my next upgrade, so the photon will be my test device...lol

LTEvo only, sorry.

Defective app. Drop the dev a line, ask him to fix it so that data goes to sd card.

I just noticed that pretty much every app I've downloaded is installed on my SD card. I guess this is the default setting, but is there a way to have apps install to the phone's memory by default instead?

Or do apps run just as fast from the SD card as from the phone itself?

Thanks.

you can set it to store into storage if you want. it should always default to storage--me things you changed the storage locations, which is a good thing!

keep it on the card, recommended.

I've changed the storage location for several things, like camera shots and such, but I don't recall changing app location. Where can I find it to change it back?

Or, why is it better on the card?

for me, im old school from the PALM days, where you had to share memory and storage, and some of those habits just carry over. i prefer to keep the phones environment with as much internal memory as possible. I have a 64GB card which is more memory than internally.

that said i dont think all apps can be moved to external card, and are you sure you are not referring to the phone's internal memory, rather than ext_sd memory?

Does this mean that moving apps to the SD card is really just moving it to a separate section of storage on the phone itself, and not the external sd card?

Yeah, I think I may have made a mistake. What I was looking at may have been phone storage all along.

Yes, unless you root the LTEvo. Usually, the internal storage is partitioned for app storage / system storage (not accessible, unless rooted) / whatever else users want to place on the storage.

Wow, that's quite a paradigm shift! All this time I thought it was moving the apps to my external sd card!

So when I change some options for where other things get stored, like pictures I take, to "storage card," is that also still the phone, or is that actually the SD card?

For apps, there are some apps that are designed to get around the partition and actually go onto the external microSD (some allow you to type in the extension, so that it follows the path to the external card). There are other apps that, when choosing the "SD" card, it still goes to the internal storage. Best way to find out is to use one of the File Exploring apps (e.g. Astro, File Manager, etc...) to see what apps actually back up info on the internal storage and what apps actually back up info on the external storage. Either that, or you can check by connecting your phone to a cpu and indicating the usb drive view (on the phone), so you can manipulate the information on your cpu.

FYI - I'm purely referring to "back-up" settings on the apps and/or pics, not actually moving the apps to the external SD.

What ever happened to storing app data on sd cards? Install 3 gameloft games on top of every other app you have and the measly 11gb of internal storage you have is completely full. It sucks having another 64gb of space just sitting there unable to be used...

I've been using System Panel and ES File Explorer but can't seem to figure out exactly where these large files are at? Is there a certain setting I need to change so I can see the size of all the folders and files because its currently not being displayed? Or a better file manager?
