    I am traveling to Costa Rica at the end of the month and thus will have no cellular service on my DroidX. I was thinking, as the hotel does have Wi-Fi, that I could make calls using the phone and Google Voice. But as there does not seem to be a way to turn off 3G on my phone and damn Verizon has such good coverage I can't find a way to escape it;+}

    Thus, there is no way to test calling over just Wi-Fi that I can see. Does anybody know if my plan has merit?

    Get grooveip in the market, connect to wifi at the hotel and grooveip well make wifi calls out using you're gv service.

    No need to disable 3g. Even if you could, you can't make wifi calls using gv without grooveip.

    Thanks, I'll try that out. I only wanted to disable 3g here in the states to test what I will use before I get there.

    I believe Y5-Battery saver is what u want. It goes to WIFI wherever it's available...overriding 3g.
