theres a way to get it to install permanatly but im not having any luck getting it to actually work. so the easiest way i have found is through Rom Manager.
put your phone in fastboot / bootloader mode (see above) and use the volume up/down keys to toggle the mode (displayed at the top of the screen) to "Recovery" and select that mode by pressing the power button

No and we won't ever have a nexus bootstrapper they need to be used on those moto devices thanks the the efforts moto took to lock down their devices. The nexus will allow you to get to recovery easily and change it so a bootstrapper is not needed.
I would guess that using Quickboot or a native rom reboot recovery feature is similar to using a bootstrapper but it is booting to the actual recovery and you can still get there if you can not access android so you don't need to worry about having to use something like an SBF to get a working system again if something goes wrong.
