Firstly I would like to apologise if this has created a duplication , as it seems as though there are others on the forum who are having similar problems.

My problem is similar in the sense of soft bricking my phone.

However, I have been trawling through android forum and xda trying to find an answer. I found a guide on xda which was very helpful. I am still struggling to find a full solution and boot back up fully.

I have been able to get a laf file from a directory, where there were many G2 versions. I went through around 7 files and eventually got a laf file from D801BK and was able to get into download mode partially.

I can see the download mode box and keep vol+ pressed, yet it does not fully go into download mode.

I have got this far and was so close. I really need help from one of the experts.

I really hope somebody can help

    Hello and welcome to AF.

Fastboot flash aboot and boot, then my recommendation is to boot laf:

    fastboot flash aboot aboot.img
    fastboot flash boot boot.img
    fastboot boot laf.img

I like to test laf by booting it first, then if all goes well you can flash it. But that's up to you, some prefer to flash it straight away. Either way, you should see LGE AndroidNet USB Serial Port (Com#) in windows device manager if download mode is working.

The few issues I have now are:

    The screen does not respond

I can get into download mode (YAY!)

I can not do a factory reset

Should I flash a new stock rom, I have found 2:

D80220C_00 - I think is the updated version

D80220B_00 - which I think is installed on the phone

I have also noticed when I go into download mode it shows the phone as being rooted - will this cause any problems when flashing a new rom?

Flashing the stock firmware will clear the root flag, it's a non issue. You should be able to flash any stock firmware so long as it's the correct one for your device.

I had tried to flash the D80220C_00 using the LG flash tool, yet the phone is now stuck on the LG logo with the led light flashing green and blue

I don't understand what has happened

    Any help?

Did you use the "normal" or "cse" option in the kdz flash tool when running it? If you used the normal option, retry it while choosing cse instead. That provides a clean flash.

If that doesn't work or you've already done that, then I'm not sure what is going on. The D802 has so many variants to it's firmware it's very tricky to know you're flashing the right one.

I have the same issue and when flashing boot.img im getting:

    C:\G2\adb>fastboot boot laf.img
    downloading 'boot.img'...
    OKAY [ 0.577s]
    FAILED (remote: dtb not found)
    finished. total time: 1.112s

    Any Ideas?

I think this might be my problem. Is there a way to tell what version I have (I know is is D802 32 gb) when all I have access to is download mode

You need your IMEI. Even though you don't currently have a booting phone, you MIGHT be able to access the hardware key control screen. To try this turn off your phone by long pressing power for no less than 15 full seconds. Even if you feel it vibrate, keep holding for 15 seconds to ensure it's off. Then press and hold all three buttons on the back at the same time. If it does bring up the hardware key control screen, it'll show your IMEI number near the bottom, just above a barcode.

If not, you'll have to hope you have the original box the phone came in as the IMEI should be listed on there.

You then use the instructs in the OP of this thread:

That should bring up a page of specs about your phone including (hopefully) the latest kdz for your phone along with some other stuff, one of which is a suffix code. That's the region your phone is from.

When going to this website: http://csmg.lgmobile.com:9002/svc/popup/model_check.jsp?esn=xxxxxxxxxxxxxx (replacing the x with my imei not including the dashes) I get:
This XML file does not appear to have any style information associated with it. The document tree is shown below.
    <response req_cmd="check_model" status="FAIL"/>

Never mind, I went into the hardware key control screen and it showed me a different imei however http://csmg.lgmobile.com:9002/svc/popup/model_check.jsp?esn=xxxxxxxxxxxxxx thinks that I have a LGD800 and I know that that is wrong.

I am considering just trying a whole bunch of different kdz files. Could this cause anything worse happening?

You buy this phone used by chance? Look on the back of the phone near the bottom. Right under the LG logo in extremely small print...what model does it say there?

Yeah it could cause worse issues but it may come to that. I'd really like to pin down what's causing the imei discrepancy here. Because again, if you bought it used, and if it truly says it's a d802 but the imei is indicating it's a d800, there's another possibility...IMEI switching/tampering by a previous owner. Starting to see this in a very regular basis.

What? Why would they do that? More importantly, what should I do?
    Thanks for your continues help.

Well, if the device were stolen, criminals can do that as a means to avoid a blacklisted IMEI. When they get stolen, most times they are reported as such and the IMEI is blacklisted so the phone can't be used. So if they switch the IMEI using somewhat readily available software, to an existing clean IMEI, then the phone will work.

If that's what happened to you, I'm sorry. Maybe there's another explanation. A glitch on the site? Idk, that uses LG servers to get that info. But a glitch could still happen, giving us misleading info. Maybe everything's ok, I'm just letting you know I've been seeing this more and more and it's mostly with the D802's.

There is one other possible explanation also. If the phone were inadvertantly flashed with D800 firmware, it may have messed up the IMEI check due to the model/ID fail. Which was part of the fail message you posted above. Let's hope it's that.

What you would need in that event is a tot. Tot's are flashed with LG Flash Tools. We have a means to bypass the ID check using LG Flash Tools. Problem is, we don't have any 32 GB tots for the D802 to my knowledge. You may have to buy one from THIS guy. They cost about $9-17 USD and it's black market but I've used it and he does come through. Gives you a slow downloading Mega link but they work in my experience. Truth is, several of the tots the G2 and G3 community have at their disposal came from purchasing them from him or some other source.

Let me think for a minute or two. We might be able to test this by simply hooking up and running LG Flash Tools to see how it's seeing your phone and what model it sees.

    iowabowtech root@android:/ #

Yeah but I prefer this instead:

Appears we do have a 32 GB D802 but it's a Southeast Asia (SEA) tot. I'm seriously guessing that might not be the ideal choice for you. But we could at least use that (and the DLL listed at the bottom of that same list) to act as would be target files in LG Flash Tools so we can verify how it's interpreting your model. You'd need to unzip both the tot and the dll file and place them on your machine. Then follow the instructs here:

Skip past all that stuff about the kdz method. Below that it gives instructs for using the tot method with LG Flash Tools. Do that but try to stop at step 10 if your device is showing in the top center of the LG Flash Tools popup. If your model is not yet showing, go ahead and select the target files by doing steps 11 & 12. I would not proceed with step 13 just yet. We should talk more about the tot you want to use and what we're doing here first and foremost is a fact finding mission to see what device it shows you have.

Side question while you're likely waiting on downloads and getting things set up...you ever used a hex editor before?

This is what I have so far. Untitled.png Should I proceed with step 13?
  21. iowabowtech

    iowabowtech root@android:/ #

Yes it won't flash. Don't unplug the cable and then replug because then it WILL flash. Though it'd fail anyway if the model check failed. We're looking at the window behind that one in the forefront for your model. Should list it near the top of the window in between those gears and the LG logo, up in that pink area.

  23. iowabowtech

    iowabowtech root@android:/ #

Ok so it is indeed recognizing it as a d802, which makes me nervous about your imei situation. But still hoping for a glitch on that. Strange though that there isn't some text in that upper left hand box labled COM41. You sure you changed your device to COM41 in Windows device manager?
