    Hi everyone,
I am soon to be new to Android. My wife has a friend in Austrailia that she currently text messages with and I was wondering if there was an Android app available that would allow free international messaging? I have checked out the Skype app but it only seems to work with Verizon (we are probably going with Sprint). Thanks for your help!

Does your wife's friend have a smartphone (Android or otherwise) as well?

I sign up for an account on fishtext.com and use the WebSMS connector app on the android market to send texts via fishtext.com

    only costs me 1p/text internationally.

Thanks for the help. I will look into those two apps. Companion, my wife's friend has an iphone. I also found something called Heywire, any experience with that?

I've not seen Heywire before, so I can't really say if it's good or not. I was going to suggest Kik Messanger (Kik Messenger | Free real-time texting for all) - in order for it to work, both your wife and her friend need to have it installed, but it works great and it's free.
