Tried restoring a previous backup yesterday (wifi issue, thought it might be a problem with rom/kernel so wanted to go back to a version that was fine). It didn't work. Gave me an MD% error, don't remember exactly what but essentially wasn't happy with the MD5 checksum so wouldn't restore.

As detailed in the title, it's CWM 5.5.0.4 CF v1.5

    Any ideas?

Cwm 6.x (touch) is fine. Like the desire, 5.x is shite IMHO

You know on the desire I always recommended 2.5.0.7 because 3.x, 4.x and 5.x weren't very good. This is still the case.

CWM is just one central source code for ALL devices. It is simply compiled for each device using drivers and files from the device in question. The overall source of the recovery is identical on all handsets.

Just seen this thread - I'm on CWM 5.5.0.4 too so am somewhat concerned. To install that CWM Touch recovery recommended by SUroot, I just copy zip to SD and flash from zip via current CWM? Or flash with Odin?

Firstly can I recommend mobile ODIN lite?

Attached to the first post at the bottom. You can't use this to go to stock as it needs root but otherwise its great for flashing .tar files.

Open mobile Odin and select "recovery" and browse to the recovery tar file you downloaded. Then scroll down and press "flash firmware".

Also I prefer the recovery linked in my signature. Think you should all have a go.

    Can't flash recovery from recovery

Thanks once again...bet you're getting fed up of me now! So I can use this mobile Odin to flash mods rather than entering recovery each time? ROMs still require flash via recovery, I'd assume?

Flashing Odin to my phone...done via recovery? I'm trying to get my head around the things that need to be flashed via different methods. There's recovery, desktop Odin, and mobile Odin so far.

Woo, I'm starting getting the hang of this - that's what I assumed.

    Not fed up!

Mobile Odin is an apk. An app. You can't flash mods. Anything that is .zip is flashed via recovery. Any recovery must be flashed via odin or mobile odin. Odin flashes .tar files. You can get radios and kernels in .tar too.

Finally got round to flashing this today. Now on CWM Touch 6.0.2.7, from XDA.

Did a backup to external SD and it seemed to work fine. I used the "original .tar method" for the backup - just seems safer to me. Similar outcome to my nandroid of the stock ROM, so I'm confident it worked.

Thanks for the heads-up about CWM 5, potentially saved some chaos later in life!
