    Questions :

Can the S3 be permanently bricked, or is it safe ?
Are there any files left behind after unroot, delete cache and factory reset ?
Rooting and installing custom kernel, can my IMEI be lost?

And here is an issue i had :

I wanted more volume on my SG3 I9300.

    Rooted with CF-Root-SGS3-v6.4

Somehow managed to overclock to 1800ghz.(had Siyah kernel on pc but did not choose to install in odin.) Got worried.

Returned to stock wiping all traces including flash counter.
Rooted again, making sure i keept stock kernel. (deleted siyah file)

Tried overwriting system/etc/default_gain.conf with a new enhanced file using File Expert.

Could not get access even with permissions given in SU and File Expert.

I’d very much appreciate some help ! :)

    Welcome to the forum.

It is possible to fully brick but it is very unlikely aslong as the instructions are followed. It is possible for the imei to be wiped when flashing but again it doesn't happen too often. As long as you have everything backed up you should be fine. There's a thread here which goes into detail about baking up

It could just be that file expert is defaulted to read only so you would need to change to read write. However the simplest way to increase the volume would be to use the siyah kernel. Once siyah is flashed to your phone you can use the stweaks app to increase volume. If you are unsure about the other settings in the app just leave everything else as default.
