try rebooting your router. regardless if your other devices can connect, rebooting the router will help out your tablet.

Thanks. I'm in a nursing home with Wy Ft so getting to the router and getting permission is a big problem. It's always something. Thanks!

I wouldn't worry too much about actually rebooting the router yourself, in any assisted care facility allowing resident's to freely access things like the facility's networking equipment is probably forbidden. You might want to mention it to a staffer, especially if other residents are also having similar issues getting online. But in a public WiFi setting like you're referring to, it's more likely to be an issue with your tablet, or just some basic issue involving your location when you do lose connectivity.
-- What model tablet do you have and which version of Android is it running?
-- Have you had this problem for long time or is losing connectivity an issue that started to occur just recently?
-- When you do lose online access, does it happen when you're just sitting in one place or after you've moved to a different spot?

You might also post your query on Amazon's help forum for your tablet model:
Amazon's FireOS may be built on top of the Android kernel but the entire interface you interact with is going to also be through FireOS. This will be similar to a typical Android device but posting to a Fire Tablet forum instead will give you more exposure to others who have your same tablet.
