All depends on how good Sprint's coverage in your area is. It can range for really fast like my area, or painfully slow in a bad area.

I have seen upwards of 1.5 to 2.28 mbps on 3G, but I have never tested without 3G.

Is the hero pretty usable on the Internet? Right now I use an iPod touch for about 90% of my Internet usage, would this be comparable?

Haven't used an iPod touch that much, but I use my Hero more than my actual PC. The only problem is typing in forums the landscape keyboard tends to lag pretty bad for me, not sure if this is the case for everybody, but I'm sure I'm not the only one. It's actually gonna be better than the iPod, because you don't have to have WIFI and it is still pretty fast with 3G.

Ok cool, my iPod touch also can lag when typing on a forum. Does typing on the hero get easyier? It was hard in the store but so was my touch at first.

It gets considerably easier after a couple weeks and the predictive text is about 95% accurate. You just have to be patient.

The stock keyboard isnt too good. You can download several different keyboard apps from the market that are tons better and more usable.

Check your settings option on the forum main page look at the bottom left corner and select "mobile".

    That'll help with some lag.
