Internet texting

What is a suitable app for texting through the Internet (that is: free texting). My data plan does not included texting.

For the app to be free also would be good, but if necessary I am willing to pay a resonable price.

I've been using Heywire and it seems to work very well. Free on Google Play.

Do you mean an IM app or an app that does SMS texting? If the former, WhatsApp and Line are quite good. If the latter, I use Google Voice.

If you don't mind a second phone number for texting, HeyWire is the way to go.
