I really like the size and physical dimensions of the xoom compared to the ipad. I prefer the more compact form factor, it looks like you could hold it with one hand a little easier

No doubt. I like that as well.

I just got my Ipad like about 2 weeks ago and wondering what would you do?

Keep Ipad or sell and get the Xoom?

I really like the Ipad, but like the Android system on my Droid X too?

I am up in the air, but I am sure my husband would say no.

I can tell you everything about the Xoom is getting better playtime I use it.

It's not even close, Xoom is better than ipad in every possible way, and a few impossible ways :)

Any android tablet or iPad? Any android tablet
    Etchasketch or iPad? Etchasketch

Also if the IP2 doesn't move away from slow memory, the already-outdated-samsung-A4-chip, and seriously improve the platform from a "toy", they are going to be outdated on release.

why would anyone buy ipad so late? eitherway I would return ipad today.

Ipad 2 will def be better than ipad one and its getting announced and possibly released on the 2nd of march.

Yea if you just got the iPad now...unless its the cheapest model its not worth it.

And like the post above says, iPad 2 is right around the corner.

Honestly, I've seen a flurry of ipads up for sale over the last couple days on craigslist. Much more than normal.

XOOM, or impending IP2? I think it's more about the XOOM than the media thinks.

Most of the media out there get free or seriously-discounted-iphones-or-ipads. But they never mention this. I believe there's a federal law that says you must disclose this now. Nobody does it, they all think they are under the radar.

The specs on the ipad 2 will be nowhere near the Xoom. For example it's rumored to only have a 0.3 megapixel front facing VGA camera, compared to the 2 megapixel camera on the Xoom.

I like my Ipad, but I have a Droid X and all my famliy has the android running too.

Thats what I miss on the Ipad, cause alot of the better apps you have to buy ?

Yes, I have bought apps on android but not all, just much more to choose from.

    Questions on the Xoom then.
1 There is flash then? There is none on Ipad.
2 There is a usb port to plug things into? There is none on Ipad!
3 Can I run wifi only or what?
Hopefully somebody can answer my questions.

Flash is not right now. But they will have an OTA update for it within a couple weeks.

It has a USB port but its a micro - cant plug in a thumb drive. And rumor (fact?) has it that is is a slave, not host. Meaning you can basically plug it into your computer to xfer files but no mouse, keyboard, drives, etc

Yes - WiFi only can run. But this model is a 3G and will cost you $200 more than the WiFi only model when it comes out - which will be at leasst a month.

I am likely going to wait for the Toshiba tablet. They have their WiFi only model "coming this spring" whenever that is. but it looks worth the wait. But you can not go wrong with the Xoom.

    Hope this helps....

    I don't think I mentioned it yet.

ipad/phone will rely on the A4 samsung processor. Very outdated at this point.

    For the ipad2/iphone5:

If it doesn't have DDR2 memory, it will be outdated at launch.

If they don't update the OS to include widgets, customization, etc. It will be outdated at launch.

If it's not REAL 4G capable, it's going to be outdated at launch.

If it doesn't have Navigation OEM, it's going to be outdated at launch.

If it doesn't have voice integration OEM, it's going to be outdated at launch.

If it doesn't have real multi-tasking, and not this crap pre-emptive-tasking, it's going to be outdated at launch.

We will see, but supplier rumors have been scarce, indicating that it'll be the same IPAD just smaller with (again) no real innovation.

Lemmings in droves will buy it for some unknown reason though! :D

I wouldn't hold your breath. Some companies were promising honeycomb tablets a month after google open sourced it, which just proves they've never seen the Honeycomb source code. It is a RADICAL departure. There is absolutely no way anyone will spin a honeycomb tablet in the next 2 or 3 months.

Well - lets be realistic. The iPad is a perfectly fine device for most people. Its pretty nice. Most people do not have the need to do anything that they can't do on the iPad. they are fine in their shell called apple.

But if you want to do half of what you can do on an Android device you will need/want an android tablet.
  19. gamul1

    gamul1 Android Enthusiast

No - I really really think this will happen. The flood gates are about to open, and every company has to know now is not the time to hold your product back.

I believe Moto will get their wifi only model out ASAP - maybe 31 days assuming they have a 30 day agreement with VRZ. Look for others who are on the cusp to get their tablets out their - announced at least and available for preorder.

Maybe I am delusional but I think things are going to fly fast in the next 2 - 3 months.

Warning - I've neen known to be delusional before...

    Well, let's be realistic.

The ipad is nothing more than a music player with a browser. It's in line with Apple where they don't give you much, but your girlfriend loves it because it's simple, can browse, and can play music.

Xoom is very much more. See my post a few posts above.

    Well lets be realistic:

This is an Android platform forum - it's biased

You're clearly an Android Fanboy - You're Biased

Its all on what platform a person likes more. Most of the bullet points above are opinions of you only. OEM Navigation or lack thereof would be outdated? Nooot everyone needs it. When I had my Droid Incredible and then Droid X it was more of a novelty really. If you're a serious car traveler, then yes, this is a great feature out of the box, but a feature that is EXPECTED? Hardly. I feel the same goes for OS voice navigation - novelty at best.

The "Real" multitasking debate is a dead horse. To the end user it works, you don't need a task manager or task killer as you do on Android.

With iOS being a closed system the blazing next gen supar DDR2 and A43 processor is a moot point as well. There is one hardware set for the most part, and the experience again to the end user is seemless. Again having used both platforms extensively, the iPhone and iPad ran just as well as the latest and greatest Tegra whatever on Android.

The customization of the Android platform is nice, but changing crap too much causes system instability.

Quality of applications - paid or not - are by FAR (in my opinion) more superior on the iOS platform. This was the reason that I left the Android platform and went BACK to iOS.

Bottom line - to the original poster. If you are happy with the iPad..keep it! The systems are completely different, and BOTH have pluses and minuses. Don't let anyones opinions on here sway your choice - as you need to find out what the best fit for you is.

Oh and as for there no being innovation - remember who started the tablet craze....and don't forget...its TRENDY to hate on Apple :)

I mostly agree. Mostly being that if the OP is going to stick with iPad then return the 1st gen and wait for iPad 2. But Android is still a great option depending on the OPs needs.

iPad is a good device and perfect for non-techs. The app ecosystem is the main playing card, but I expect Android to pick up, now that Honeycomb allows dynamic space management, rather than a fixed allocation like previous Android OS versions. That and an install base increase of Android tablets.

The new iPad is expected to have a dual core as well and the current chipset does a good job. Anyone saying other things has NOT played games on an i4 device. TONS of great games.

Still, I prefer a Android tablet over iPad. My gTablet display may look fugly unless viewed close to straight on, but has USB host, and a card slot. iPad does not have that and costs more.

My answer was to get an iPod 4 64gb so I can have a lot of fun games and space for tunes AND have an Android tablet :) (A key reason going for the lower cost gTablet).

Agreed. Just look at the Xoom. Due to the storage management changes in Honeycomb (dynamic) microsd slots do not work, so Motorola is needing an OS patch to allow it to work. I would not hold my breath for that fix, either, since may not be that easy.

Seems Android is wanting the devices to be like iOS and have contained storage space.

    1. sure
    2. I'm qualfied, having owned everything being discussed that's been released except for the xoom (hoping after work today). Fanboy is a term used to classify apple product lovers. Nothing more, nothing less.
    3. Fujitsu innovated and imho started the tablet craze.

You are certainly entitled to your opine. Just don't try to make it appear like facts. Trust me, you'll look better if you don't try so hard.
