I recently made a device with an Arduino and an infra red receiver allowing me to turn my light switch on and off using a TV remote. I got my HTC One and realized I could use the infra red transmitter on use my phone to turn the light on and off.

What I am trying to do now is figure out a way to send a infra red signal from my phone in the morning to turn on the lights and server as an alarm clock. I was considering writing an Android app allowing me to do this, but that seemed like quite a bit of work when all I really needed was to add in a few lines of code to an existing alarm clock app to trigger the infra red transmitter.

Is there a better way to do this than going out and writing a whole alarm clock app? I have never developed for Android before.

Sorry if this is the wrong place to post this question, it is my first post.
