Is BlueMail legit?

I find BlueMail to be the best mail app for Android, tons of features. But is it legit? They seem to have recently updated their website and have a privacy policy and terms of service. But when you google them, you get strangely little information. Says they are based in San Francisco, but does anyone know anything about them? After doing a little research, I'm wary about turning over all my emails to some mystery company.

I was looking at it the other day, I'm setting up a phone for a friend but thought that was a little too much for her Luddite ways :p

It's been around since '15 and has 5 million downloads, I wouldn't worry about it at all.

    Is it in the Playstore?

Yes. Does that necessarily mean it's OK? Does Google vet every software vendor? I really don't know what their review process is?

You're right to be wary, not everything out there (even in Play) is "good", there's some crap out there for sure! Play is much safer though, stick to that and you should be OK. Look at the app though, if it really seems wrong it probably is. I check for number of downloads, recent reviews (make sure they don't all sound the same or just say 'nice') and permissions. If those seem off ask! I mean, your flashlight app doesn't need to access your contacts...
Be careful out there but for the most part it's all good.

Sure, they could scan for malware, but I wouldntw think they'd have any way of knowing if an email app provider was improperly using your data. That's my concern. I've been using it for a while and think it's great, I just was surprised how little about the company turns up when you do a search. Makes it seem shady to me.

    Thanks for the replies

If you're referring to this BlueMail then you have nothing to worry about. BlueMail is an email client, not a host. You aren't turning anything over to them. Settings and credentials are saved locally and only backed up to your Google account if you so choose.

Their privacy policy is clearer than it used to be. But they claim to make no money from providing you with the service, just do this out of the goodness of their heart on the back of businesses paying for premium plans (I wonder how many do?). Maybe they are just that altruistic/philanthropic, but personally I can't help but harbour a few doubts. I may be too cynical, of course (it has been suggested before).

I'm done with them too. I really like the app, but I also emailed them asking a few questions, and didn't get a response.

I tried it out a long time ago but didn't care for it. I recommend AquaMail. It is one of the oldest app I still use today. I have used it for 5 years as my email app on Andriod and it has never failed me, infact it has only gotten better over the years.
