1. Are you ready for the Galaxy S20? Here is everything we know so far!

Is it just me or does the browser suck?

So is it just me or does the web browser suck? And by suck I mean it's laggy as hell. I'm used to smooth browsers like from the iPhone and this is irritating as hell to me as web browsing is a large part of the user experience for me. I was told the RAZR (well the MAXX) was the best Android phone. I'm not feeling it.

Tje stock browser on just about every phone sucks. Why don't you try some other browsers before you conclude the entire phone sucks because you dont like the stock browser.

Although this thread smells like trolling to me.

I'm not trolling, I'm serious. I've tried stock and Dolphin so far and they're both kinda crappy. What's the best browser to use then?

I like Dolphin mini personally, but there are countless different ones on the market. Opera, xscope, etc. Etc. Just try a few out before concluding the phone sucks because the stock browser isnt to your liking.

Boat browser works great. There are so many out there not finding one is almost impossible.

I vote boat mini as well. Great, simple ui, awesome functionality, and it's really quick. Ymmv. Keep trying different ones until you find one that serves the purpose you are looking for, though. That is what is great about Android.... ;)

Whenever we get upgraded to 4.0, we can use Chrome.

Until then just live with it.

    Razr and Rezound -

"It should be noted that in most websites, both were VERY smooth and that the videos above are simply a worse-case scenario."

Once ICS gets here they will get even better.

I never heard a complaint about the razr Web browser until this thread. I don't think it's bad. I have noticed it stick just a little as you begin to scroll. But after that it's very fluid and smooth. I'm not going to jump to another phone for that.

ehhh Only 3 post and they are all complaints about the stock web browser. Curious...
I'm sorry but anyone that thinks about returning a device as good as the razr maxx because of the stock web browser...well let's just say does not make much sense.

That's because I joined this site to make this thread. I don't see the value in Androids like most here. I've been an iDevice person since the iPhone 3GS. But through a complicated series of events that I'm not going to get into, it was either wait several weeks for money from Verizon to go to AT&T to get an iPhone (I'm impatient so that wasn't an option), get an iPhone with Verizon and deal with the terrible 3G speeds or take a leap of faith and get a "top of the line" Android smartphone.

Since web browsing is one of the things I most often partake in when I'm mobile, is it not logical that I'm picky about it after being so used to the fluidity of an iPhone or my iPad?

I'm probably going to get comments about me being on the wrong website to be an Apple fan or something, but I just came here because I was making a sincere effort to enjoy the phone. It's not a bad phone (call volume kind of sucks and I can't connect to wifi that requires a site log-in) but the browsing blows IMO.

I hear that ICS can be flashed onto these things. While I don't know how to do much more than root the phone (and I tried following a guide to overclock it, which didn't work...I did install whatever a cwm is & bootstrapper thing though), would that be worth trying to get what I want? And if for whatever reason I decide I don't want it anymore, can I return it to stock/unrooted 2.3.6?

I kinda like the stock browser as all my bookmarks migrated when i got my razr, i was a month without a smartphone and had to get one for work. I forgot about xscope, on my droid x I used 3 different browsers because some worked better for some things than others........I do the same thing on my desktop, it has a lot to do with personal preferences, i think, than functionality

I just dropped the iPhone 4 because of the poor 3G service with verizon. Oddly, I would say the same about safari and call volume on the iPhone, and also not connecting to some wifi spots. Personally I think safari is a dog, and just was not impressed with call quality on the iPhone. Yes, the death grip also exists on verizon iPhone 4. I don't know how much better the iPhone 4S is, but in the end, the iPhone 4 did not impress me. May go back to the iPhone 5 if it is impressive, but the 4 model has a lot to be desired.

The funny thing now is that browsers that once ran more smoothly like Opera now run like poo in comatose n to the stock browser in ICS.

I'm running the ICS leak, and I have to say. Chrome is the bomb.

I tried a lot and Boat and or Boat mini (slightly scaled down) seem to be the fastest for me. I always end up going back to it for browsing.

What happens if you take the browser APK from one brand of phone and put it on another? it should work, no?

I'm looking to get someone a phone and this was looking good until now, although I was wondering if I can just put the Galaxy SII's browser on it, I have the apk.

You can get it here too if anyone wants to test (at their own risk), but I'm not sure if it'll want to override the original browser on the RAZR, since it's just called browser and has no brand name as such.
    Browser.apk on this filelist: https://spreadsheets.google.com/spr...SENVeXlqUm5vV0E&single=true&gid=0&output=html
    (It's from Gingerbread 2.3.3 btw)

If someone could test the SII's browser on the razr and report back I'd be much appreciative, as in hopefully it's smoother?

Stand by one, downloading now. It should be fine. It will either fail to install, fail to work, or it will run just fine next to the stock browser. It won't erase it.

EDIT: It didn't install. It gave an error along the lines of "another package of the same name is already installed". FYI I'm running the ICS leak, but it shouldn't matter.

There are plenty of aftermarket browsers out there. I'm sure one of them will meet you/your friends needs.

I kinda agree with him. Gb experience on this phone is kinda awful. Even the ice browser is terrible.

Ics/chrome is the first acceptable web browsing experience ive ever had on an android phone.
