i'm ineligible for an upgrade (18 months) until december, 2011, and the samsung dual core galaxy s 2 is not released yet. is life worth living?

i got my captivate in june, 2010, plus i have to wait for the dual core galaxy s2 release.

is life really worth living? how do i cope?

i feel so sordid and slutty now with an outdated phone. i feel like a used up whore.

should i post ghost reviews saying how much i hate infuse until the dual core galaxy s2 is released to make new infuse owners regret their purchase?

Depending on how long you've been with AT&T and what type of customer you are (Premier, whatever) .... you should be able to get a new phone sooner.

Check out this thread I posted several months ago on that subject.

There's technical obsolescence and functional obsolescence. Most devices are technically obsolete soon after launch, but are functionally viable for a long time. So, feeling sordid and slutty can be a relatively perpetual state of mind for those envious of the latest and greatest...or the feelings can be jettisoned once they realize that nirvana is likely present only for brief, fleeting periods of time (read: launch day).

    Does that help?

    I didn't think so. :)

My contract also expires this Dec 2011 but I was eligible for a new Infuse just last week. I loved my Captivate but I LOVE LOVE LOVE my infuse with the bigger screen.

Since I like to do everything on the Captivate using one hand, I don't think I can handle a larger screen, Mr. PP. Draw from that whatever conclusions you wish. I have thick skin.

thanks. i do feel a little less sordid and less slutty. it may take a while to be slut free, but you definitely helped.

Don't shoot for being totally slut-free. That hint of naughtiness is beguiling.

Well, your phone mightt be outdated, but it's not like your phone can't do something the higher end ones can do. I mean, my point is like, for one, the Captivate is already incredibly snappy especially with customized ROM's and all that, and changing from like, 4 to 2 milliseconds won't do much. I guess you can look in terms of apps and games and such, but there hasn't been anything extensive or needy enough that your phone lags on it or anything, so a dual-core phone is practically useless right now. I mean, Angry Birds is already at an extremely high resolution and even games like Asphalt 6, I can't imagine it much better than it already is, so yeah. I'm not entirely psyched for the newer galaxy phone, except maybe for bigger screen, lighter, and better camera?

If AT&T is anything like Rogers up here, you can probably call their Office of the president. Thats what i did when i had my blackberry replaced 6 times before they re-signed my contract (only 9 months in) and gave me my Galaxy for 50 bucks. Definitely cant complain about that!

By the time we are eligible for a new phone we will have better displays, quad core cpu, and LTE available. :)

Yeah, I totally agree with Reggie3; by the time we've gotten our upgrade eligibility back, phones like the Infuse will seem like old news. We'll be glad we waited. Lots of newer, better, faster phones will be released by 2012 and Infuse owners will wish they were us.

I'd be happy with my Captivate for a long time if the GPS worked.

I'll second..er..third that. I just flashed serendipity VII to my captivate and I gotta say I love this phone. The thing is I'm a student, so I don't know the city I live in very well, and I'm constantly traveling to visit family in Cleveland, dc, and Virginia often, and college friends between so i'm very often in cities that I don't know my way around in. I get so jealous when my friends load up their androids and can use the gps normally. It's a great free service. I could possibly get by using the gps in my phone, but only if I absolutely have to. The gps will jump around all the time, rerouting me as if I'm around the block when I'm not, or lose signal completely. I'm angry that I dealt with this and didn't return this phone. The only reason I kept this phone is because samsung said they would fix the gps.

I will probably try to craigslist my captivate and buy an at&t nexus s only for a functioning gps. For me, its worth sacrificing external storage and the gorilla glass screen. At least I'll gain the ffc, although I will probably never use it.

I'm very surprised a class action suit has not already been organized and won against samsung.

I bought a Captivate the very day they were first released. It's still one of my favorites.

Recently I bought a new Galaxy S II from a contact I have overseas. This is one very impressive phone. I have large hands, so a big phone really works well for me and is very comfortable to hold.

Yet that said, this phone doesn't feel that large since it's so incredibly thin and light. It's am amazing piece of engineering.

If this phone fits into your budget, it's the one to have. I expect it will not be too much longer before they appear on the AT&T web site and in their stores.

I know, the worst is seeing Captivate in the Sunday paper ads for free, or $29 and the like, while all the other smartphones are $150 or more :(. I remember bragging after I bought the cappy how top of the line and expensive it was.
