Is rooting Samsung S7 (v6 OS) reliable now?

I have read the various hacking sites but there is nothing conclusive regarding the occassional trashed phones which reportedly happened with the most recent Samsung patches. The last of these arrived maybe 6 months ago and after that one just gets the v7 nag every day...

I know I will lose the ability to use android pay once a phone is rooted, but it's worth it for the ability to turn off the constant update nags, and other features like the ability for all apps to use the SD card.

What concerns me is that the root process which is "out there" has not changed since the earliest S7 issue.
