Is the Bionic worth it?

Currently I'm using an LG Env3, so I've yet to make the transition into the touch screen app filled world of phones of today. I've been waiting forever to upgrade and it's finally coming around that time where phones I've been waiting for are coming out.

Basically, my plan at this point is to upgrade to the Bionic for 325 (including the extended battery) and if the iPhone 5/Nexus whatever its called come out and blow me away I can sell the Bionic + extended battery for 475-500 bucks and buy one of those phones out right. Is this a good idea?

OR... should I just do what I've been doing and...wait?

I'm just sick of this POS phone Ive had forever, no pandora on the go, getting lost when a GPS would have REALLY been useful, simple things like that, lol.

My gut feeling says to wait but the idea of getting a nice phone for a couple weeks and then selling it to upgrade to a better phone in a month or so sounds good in my head...

    Thoughts?

Going from the env3 to a bionic is gonna be like going from a go cart to a ferrari. Go out and get a bionic today. Get rid of that POS LG. Just buy the phone first and see if you will actually need the ext'd bat.

Also you wont want to sell the bionic if you have had an env3 for this long trust me. The only reason i got rid of my droid x was because the bionic has 4G. Otherwise i woulda stuck eith my X for another year.

lol, but I'm sure the nexus or iphone 5 will be better than the bionic by the time they come out. I'm just getting sick of the lack of info and delays. I want a phone now damn it!

I've heard the Bionics screen isn't so great along with it's camera. Do you think I'd be able to sell the Bionic + Extended Battery in Oct. for 500?

That way I can just buy one of those phones when they come out if they're really that much better. The Bionic won't lose that much retail value in a month, will it?

I agree the even going from the DriodX, which was/is an amazing phone to the Bionic feels like a nice jump up.

If you are a heavy user I would not pass up the extended battery offer at 50% off right now. I went ahead and picked up the extended battery yesterday because I like to have 2 batteries for my phone, just incase. It was cheaper to get the extended battery than a regular batter. Not a huge fan of how big it makes the phone, but I love the battery life!

Yea, but if something comes out next month thats a lot better than the Bionic I might as well jump ship and get it if I can, right? Basically I don't want to make an impulse decision and get the Bionic and then regret when I see what the Nexus/iPhone have to offer... I COULD wait for the next round of phones buuuuuuuuuuuut Im so sick of this POS LG, lol. :(

Hard to tell on the price. The biggest complaint on the screen is the pentile screen. Coming from the X you can see the pixels on some of the screens, but I like the white text on black screen it looks amazing and it is bright (even on the minimum setting).

For the camera, I noticed a delay on the first picture I took last night, but while still in the app every other picture I took was right away. I would say the camera is very good for a point and shoot camera.

i got the bionic on day one and am very happy with the phone so far. i'm not really sure what an env3 is, but it sounds rather dated. i came from a nexus one and, as much as i loved the n1, it was getting dated. the bionic has been really smooth and fast. far better than any android phone i've ever owned (n1, vibrant, mt3g). the moto blur, or whatever it is now called, isn't bad at all. coming from vanilla android on the n1, i was a little concerned about it, but there is no lag and it hasn't been an issue at all.

the phone and screen size are really nice. it isn't too big in my pocket, even with a slim case on it, and moto did a nice job minimizing the size of the phone around the good sized 4.3" screen.

the only negative to the phone is the pentile display. it is very clear and does good in the sunlight, but the vibrancy of colors are not very good. it just looks a little washed out. it isn't a big issue for me because i don't watch movies on it, so it isn't really a big deal.

i'll check out the nexus/droid prime when it comes out, but unless ics really blows me away, i'll probably keep the bionic.

the long and the short, it's a great phone, i'd go grab one.

There will always be something better down the road. Its how technology rolls. Getting an i5 or Nexus Prime isnt gonna stop that as something else will come out to top those. If you like what you see get it. If you dont then just pass til something better comes out. When I got the OG Droid I was bummed to hear the Droid X released not soon after. I stuck with the OG and it served me well til now. Technology gets outdated and surpassed as soon as you walk out the door with it.

True. But I feel like the next round of phones that can compete/surpass the Bionic are right around the corner (<month). I know 6 months from now there will probably be phones twice as powerful as the Bionic on the market. The point is I wanna make a decision in the next month (or by the end of the work day, lol) on which phone I want.

I think you guys may have convinced me to go out and get the Bionic. Ive been fine with my Env3 for now and if the next batch of phones really blow me away I can sell the Bionic and pick one of those up.

Also, I'm hearing a lot of horror stories about the 2 GB plan and 4G LTE.

I'm not going to be streaming netflix but I will be:

-Browsing the internet (<2 hours a day)
    -Pandora (<2 hours a day)
    -Youtube (<20 min a day...if at all)

A lot of the areas I'll be in will have WI-FI so I plan to stick to that for obvious reasons.

Question though: It says its $10/GB extra, but is it pro rated based on how much you went over? Like if I went .5 GB over would my data bill be 35 a month?

Also, if I buy this phone and decide I don't like it (phone or just because of the data) I can return it within 14 days right? Will that cancel my contract? Will I still have to pay for data for the full month?

Thanks for any responses guys. :)

The answer to your question is going to be different for everybody. The only way you can answer yourself is to try it out. For me it is worth it. I like the screen, the design, and the speed of the phone. I feel it is a well built device and after having 4G, I won't be able to go back to 3G. The extended battery has made a big difference for me and I now really enjoy this phone.

Tech moves fast. No matter when you buy a new phone, there will always be something better a month or two down the road. It is just a matter of finding something that makes you happy and not worrying too much about what is coming next month. The way I figure, whatever will be coming out when my 20 months with this phone is up will blow anything coming out in the next 6 months out of the water. :)

seriously go get pick up the bionic and you will immediately want to lock this thread. env3 is like a calculator that makes phone calls. im sure a faster phone will be out by the end of the year. but if you wait for a better phone, your never gonna buy a new one.

Welp, didn't update the thread but ended up getting the Bionic. :)

So far I'm loving the phone, can't keep off it. Got it for 199.99 at Radio Shack. No real complaints so far, the battery is about as good as I thought it would be although I'm probably going to get the extended eventually.

Sucks I only got the 2GB plan though, I've only used 40 MB since Friday but that's with very little use. Verizon is going to have to change their plans, maybe make 30 for 5 GB or something because as it stands right now it's kind of ridiculous. You can't advertise this 4G network but then have a plan for 30 bucks that you can't really take advantage of the network...

I completely agree. I left my EnV3 in July of 2010 for the DX. Steep learning curve but worth it. My DX was trouble free and went to the Bionic for the speed and LTE. Great phone. All my phones since 1996 have been moto with the exception of the EnV3. I can't picture myself with an ifruit. Since moving to android I am very satisfied.

  21. Most likely once new phones come out the price you will be able to get in oct will be much lower. I would think in oct you may be able to get $400 unless you put it on ebay then you may get more but you get stuck with all the fees.

  22. No you will be charged the 10 if you go over the 2gb. You will keep getting charged depending on how much you use. So if you go over alot you can be paying an extra $30 bucks or so depending on how much you use.

  23. They don't care about the customer all they care about is making money and with low plans and overage charges they will make a ton of money. These phones use alot of data and luckily I am grandfathered in but the day they try and take that away is the day I will leave verizon.
