this topic was discussed when the first 4.3 inch phone came out 2 yrs ago. I got the EVO and at first it was .. damn that is big... i feel weird with it.

after a week with it.. and loving the real estate advantage.. I cant see going smaller.

I am also over 40... and starting to need the bigger screen.

Then came the Samsung EPIC Touch with 4.7 inch...
Now that the Samsung NOTE is out.. and coming to Sprint.
    as a 5.3 inch screen...

i want bigger.. but again.. i am thinking... have we stepped over the line?
I am a big guy.. (6.1 ft) but still feel a little silly with such a big device to my face.

carrying my Evo to gym.. to listen to music is OK.... but how will it look with the NOTE?

FWIW, I agree this is an excellent question. As you know, I've been on the 4.3" train since the Evo came out. Recently, my headset died and now I have to hold the phone to my face (or use the speaker). I'd forgotten what it was like to hold a big phone. I don't think I'd mind the extra screen real estate on the Note, but it would have to fit well into a shirt pocket - and I'd definitely be using a headset with that beast.

I had a guy with a Note beside me on the train yesterday, and damn it was big. Maybe since I usually never hold the phone to my face (I usually have headsets with mic connected), it should be fine, but it wont fit in my jeans'/school uniform pants' pocket! So no go, too big for me.

But then it will all depend on the usage of each of us.

Ask yourself - 'Do I wanna slap that big bad boy upside my head and let my geek flag fly?' If so, and since it ain't gonna fit your pocket, go all out with a belt clip or man-purse.

    I kid...but then again...

4-4.3" is my max. I saw someone talking on a new Nexus and knew it was over my limit.

i am debating.. selling my evo or just keeping it as the smaller phone to take when out and about..

the NOTE would be my small tablet...

    just switch back and forth...

but if I sell the EVO, it would bay for the NOTE...
I do have an old htc Hero.. :p still works perfect

    Over there <points>
My line is similar to others' here. If it fits in my pocket, it's good. The note won't fit, so I'll pass.

I do believe the "pocket test" is the truest real world test of a phones size that I have ever heard of. I was worried about my GS2 being to big, but it does pass the pocket test in both my slack & jeans. I don't think the Note would qualify. As a side note, I did see a couple carrying Galaxy Tabs on belt holsters the other day - to each his own.

If you don't go with the Note, the Evo 3D is a huge upgrade to the Evo, fwiw.

between the evo and e3d... i am not sure if..I consider it an "enough" upgrade. I love my evo.

but the NOTE adds .. real estate.. which I like and hate. :p
so a combo.. htc hero / NOTE/ Bluetooth... might be a good combo.

Lots of cool Bluetooth stuff out there - I keep considering going with one of those watches, for instance.

It's too big for the average person to carry around but its like for business people I think, with large suitcases/briefcases so they have no problem. Also they can do their business emails etc on the train in first class. Thats the market its targetted at I'm guessing

Well it's all relative. The Note is a lot smaller than my 7" Galaxy Tab, and I used to for a while, with Skype, up to my ear. Of course it was silly as heck, and I did feel like:

    ..but still. :D
