Specifically for the Thunderbolt here is the manual. Has tons of info on your new device.

For Android in general I don't have anything for you, but If you have specific questions I can help you out.

is there a way to change the sound for different notifications? like a different sound for a text message as opposed to new mail. or am i just stuck with one sound for every notification no matter what it is?

yes, go into the text msg app, hit the menu, settings...change the ring tone, works the same for email and other alert apps meaning you need to change it within the apps settings. But really Android is very easy to get used to and practice makes better. give it a shot its quite worth it :)

Well, you're at the right place :). I guess you can say that this whole forum is a cheat sheet. Just ask away and someone is bound to have an answer.

so i open my mail widget
i click on menu (on the bottom of the phone)
    it brings up refresh-sort-compose-folders-accounts list-more
    i click more
it brings up new account or settings
    i click on settings
    then click on notification settings

it gives me three choices: email notifications on/off, notification sound on/off, notification vibrate on/off ........... all of these are only "check" or "uncheck" the box, but nothing to change the sound of the notification. am i in the wrong place?

found it. it's under personalize, then personalize sound, then notification sound.

now if my TB would give me notifications it'd be great :-/
