I love Helix Launcher 2 with its 3d app scrolling and 4 shortcuts, but is their a home like that with less lag? Because my phone lags nonstop now.

Also on a side note. Is their a Ultimatedroid theme for Cyanogen? I <3 Ultimatedroid's theme and thats the only reason I use it over Cyanogen.

Uh... yeah, HelixLauncher. The 3D app drawer is generally what causes lag; you're hard pressed to find a 3D app drawer that won't slow your phone down to a crawl. HelixLauncher lets you keep the amazing home screen like in HelixLauncher2 but it doesn't feel like you're clocked at 125MHz. :)

HelixLauncher 1.2 as noted above - in Marketplace. 3D drawer is pretty but inefficient...

HelixLauncher 2 has been laggy for me on a freshly installed ROM at 1.2GHz. Basically, the 3D app drawer is never smooth.

I'm stock and I rarely lag. You guys must have a lot of background services, or that 1Ghz is actually hurting your performance.

I am really experiencing no lag whatsoever. The app drawer is very responsive.

Thanks to all for this valuable info. I am starting to notice some serious speed issues, coinciding with H2 installation.

Very interesting that the actual cause, the 3D drawer, is the thing I could do without. I'll try an earlier version. Thanks for saving me the trouble of starting another thread.

The main thing I'm noticing is that when the phone rings, the number comes up long before the name, which I never experienced before.

I took everyone's advice and used Helixlauncher the original one and I was amazed at the snappyness and speed of it. Funny thing is I thought it didn't have shortcuts, but it does. I can do without the 3d app drawer even though I like it, but it doesn't matter. I forgot how fast m phone could be. Seems like a brand new phone.

Wish HelixLauncher had option to hide notification strip. Otherwise, love it :)

I use the new helixlauncher2 beta from the devs website and it doesn't lag at all. I am not overclocked either.

Im running the new Helix Launcher 2 on my otherwise stock 2.1 Droid. No Lag whatsoever, unless I try to use some un-optimized live wallpapers in addition to the Launcher.

I actually find that the 3d app drawer is smoother and more responsive than the stock one was.

I read a lot of threads about lag, and forcecloses and whatnot. I never seem to experience any of the problems that a lot of people encounter. I wonder if a lot of it is the users loading down their phones with tons of widgets, running live wallpapers, and tons of background services. It's a computer. The more you ask it to do, the slower it gets. ;)

I'm running Helix Launcher 2 (after having used Helix 1 for the past 6 weeks or so) and I've actually experienced an increase in speed compared to Helix 1. In fact, the speed of my phone is comparable to what it was when completely stock. I'm not rooted (yet) but a friend of mine is and he had so many issues with Helix 2 he uninstalled within a day. The 3D app drawer doesn't lag at all for me. It was slow to load the first time I opened it (while the apps I have were showing up in the drawer), but every subsequent opening of the drawer has been incredibly smooth. I don't run live wallpapers (seem to slow things down too much regardless of home I'm using), but I do have 7 screens loaded with icons and widgets - except for my main home screen that only has one widget and two icons (I like to keep it looking clean). I don't have any FC issues either. I found that when I cleared the cache of my apps and browser, deleted old email messages and emptied the trash that it freed up a lot of internal memory and the speed of my phone increased. I'm loving Helix 2. I've tried every other home replacement out there and this has been by far the best performing of the bunch for me.

Yeah... I've been using version 2 since news broke that version 2 0.7 was good to go for the Droid. I have to say I like it quite a lot. I'm stock and rarely ever see much lag. Sometimes my app drawer will come up blank while the apps load, but that's really my only complaint. I did find for a time that coming back to the app drawer from closing an app all the way out with the back button was a bit annoying, but now I find it quite useful. I was a long time user of Home++, but the lag became unbearable after a while and Launcher 1 came to the rescue. Launcher 2 I like tons better if only for the 3D app drawer; though gimicky it makes everything that much technologically sexy. I don't think I could ever go back to Stock after HL2.

I feel like everyone's definition of "lag" is different. Like mine, for example, is that if the slightest stuttering occurs I'll try to eliminate it. Some people are fine with jagged animations as long as it doesn't freeze up.

Nope, my animations are not jagged at all. It runs smooth as a baby's bottom.

Well, sure, that's the reason for having 5-7 home screens......lots of widgets.

Mine slowed down a lot, overclocked at 1.1 GHz. Often times it would take about 5 seconds from the time I press the home button to when I can actually scroll on the home screen.

Even with the widgets I have running it runs great with Helix 1.

LoL.. Yeah, but you kind of missed my point. :)

It's a computer. The more it has to do, and calculate, the more it slows down. You can't encode hi-def video, watch a BluRay movie, surf the internet, and play Crysis on your home PC at the same time. Adding home screens adds to what the CPU has to calculate. Adding widgets, running a 3d app drawer, etc. all take CPU cycles.

I have 5 screens, and 5 widgets running, and Lookout Mobile Security, and it's still butter smooth.

What is the dev's website? Is there really a newer beta than the one that was released to the market last week?

I used to be rooted at 1GHz and then went stock and took the OTA. I installed Helix Launcher 2 (ver. 0.7) from the market on Friday and this phone has never run this good. It is smoother and faster than it ever was OC'd and I have absolutely no video stutter or lag on anything. I am using 5 screens and have about 8 widgets running. When I hit the app drawer button, the icons fly into place instantly and scrolling through the list is smooth as silk. I was using Helix Launcher 1 and was very happy, but I did have some lag in the form of occasional stutters or hit the icon and wait, but non of this happens now. I have noticed that I have gotten a bunch of updates lately (maybe over the past week) sometimes 3 or 4 a day. Maybe some of the updates fixed some of the lag? Anyway, Helix Launcher 2 gets a BIG THUMBS UP in my book. :D
