    Hello all,

I got my Galaxy S2 yesterday, and I'm loving it so far.

I was just wondering is it possible to remove the stock messaging app on the phone at all?

I was using it yesterday, and I hated how it's showing Facebook contacts along with my phone contacts. I ended up sending texts to people's e-mails by accident because of this (I can't see anywhere in the settings in the app to turn this off?)

I have downloaded Handcent (used to have it on my Desire too) so was hoping to use this exclusively. Problem is, I can't disable the stock app, so it's showing as having received unread texts etc, even know I have read them in Handcent. Also, if I delete a text from the stock app, it deletes in handcent too??

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    1. Download the Forums for Android™ app!

Sent/received texts are stored in a central pool on your phone which the stock AND all 3rd party apps all tap into.

To stop the stock message app notifying you of incoming messages, open it up then
    menu>settings>notifications (untick)

Warning: If you want sent/received sms showing in your call logs, then handcent/go sms dont seem to do this. Only sms sent/received messages via the stock app also makes a log entry here. I have notified both hancent and go sms about this but didnt receive an answer. I will keep tabs on their updates tho.

    Cheers for the reply.

Is there any way of doing it without rooting? Don't think I'd be too confident with that yet you see!

    Thanks for your reply :)

Seeing as the stock app can't be disabled without rooting, is there any way to show only my phone contacts in the stock app, rather than including e-mail addresses etc?

    Thanks :)

    Thanks again.

E-mail address, facebook friends etc are still showing up though (this is within the messaging app when sending a new text message).

Maybe it's an issue with my google account and it needs altering?

i just deleted Mms.apk from System/App folder using Root Explorer.
it seems to have removed the stock messaging app with no side effects (so far)

one thing that pleases me is it seems to have stopped messages appearing in my call log, which just seemed like a stupid addition and clutters it up from my calls.

How long ago did you do that mate?

I'm trying to find an option to not show Facbeook contacts in the messaging app (there is an option in hendcent), but that is proving very difficult indeed!

Cheers for your help mate, may do that if it doesn't cause any problems.

New question: How do you stop your Facebook contacts from showing in the messaging app?

    Thanks :)

Ive installed. Go Launcher, and with it Go Contacts. In there is an option to disable showing facebook/google etc contacts. Much nicer than tge stock app, and works great with handcent.

I had all of the same issues you had, and it was ready to send it back until i started using the GO apps. All free as well

Hey Jimmy glad you liking it you need to adjust the friends settings in facebook itself. I've found that that issuse only happens with certain apps. If you have never rooted b4 I would advise not too as it will void warranty if you ever need to have it fixed etc. I flashed mined though sso have the latest firmware, as for hiding apps just create a group of all The apps you want in the App screen and have it set to that only.

Give me a shout if your wanting advice etc or more tips

i also use GO apps, GOsms is much better sms app and it lets you tick which one you want as default.
