Sorry if this is a dumb question. But I just want reset my phone, but keep all my apps on the sd card. How do i do that?

whats the difference between a hard reset vs factory reset

will it save my contacts and photos and videos?

Not sure what a hard reset is. A factory reset wipes your contacts but as long as they are Google contacts they will re-sync to your phone. Some of your apps come back too. The sdcard isn't touched so your pictures and music will be fine.

I have some this about for times.
I use an app called system panel to archive all all my apps to sd card, it lets you archive multiple versions of the same app.
So if you update and don't like the new version or it breaks functionality you can easily revert back to the older version.
The only thing about restoring apps from sd card is that they don't show as installed in the market so if there is an update you won't be notified.

Using titanium backup as a rooted user allows you to mark the app as from the market when you restore it.

Appbrain is good for that too, I guess...
I tried to use it once but, I kinda found it pointless.
Having it installed runs yet another service process (or two) on your phone.
Maybe, I didn't know how to use it right.
Looks like it just a kept a list of what I installed and when.
It asks for a lot of permissions too, like access to your gmail/Google account.
