Is there an App for this? (home taskbar shortcut)

My back and home keys don't work half the time, so I get stuck in an app unless i power off my phone.
Is there any app out that runs in the background/in the task bar that will let me jump to home on my phone?

We need to know which phone you are using re the button problems. If the buttons aren't working, you should ask your carrier for a replacement.

In the mean time, Task Panel can be accessed from the Notification tray so you can kill running apps, or get to the Home screen.

I'm using a htc g1. It got water damage and I have no issurance(now I know better). Htc wantes at least 400 to fix it and tmobile wants 300 for an upgrade.
I tried that task panel app,and as soon as I opened it and clicked to go home,it was open anymore,and not running in the task bar. Is there a setting I need to change?
