Curious, is there a scanner application that will turn an image to text? Like the barcode scanner, that app reads the numbers very well...

Scan2pdf will turn a page into a pdf, but does not turn it into text. Maybe there is an app to turn pdf into text, although I havent seen one.

Neither have I. But if you have to have it you could always transfer the image/pdf to your desktop or laptop machine, because there is an application for PC/Mac that converts images to text.

I think there are business card scanner apps. A full-blown OCR program is probably beyond the capabilities of a mobile phone at present though.

Edited to add : Search the Market for "business card" and you'll find several apps, including one by Abbyy, makers of a highly regarded desktop OCR package. If you want to scan more than business cards, your best bet would be a good desktop program like Abbyy FineReader. OCR packages are...not cheap ...but starter versions come free with many scanners.

OCR is what you're looking for.

The barcode scanner only reads barcodes. It's not reading the numbers but the bars.

I've had ok results using Google Goggles. It's a strange app, that tries to autodect what you are taking an image of. It it see text or business card it will automatically OCR it. Price is right. Free.
