will google voice take the voicemail from my verizon number, convert it to text, then send the text to me?

in other words, i don't want to pay for Visual Voicemail, I would however like to receive my voicemails that come to my regular cell number as text messages. I don't want to have to give everyone a new number etc...

you can use google voice voicemail for your Verizon line's voicemail. Log in to GV on the PC and under Settings there should be a link to activate it

the transcriptions are lik 75-85% accurate. But that's more than enough to get a general sense of what the person wants.

Sometimes it gets them hilariously wrong though and makes me laugh pretty hard. I'm not even sure I would want to trade that for 100% accuracy :)
